Palkia revealed as the first confirmed support Pokemon in new Smash Wii U screenshot

Super Smash Bros. Wii U - Palkia

A good portion of the excitement when playing a new Smash game comes from anticipating what new Pokemon will appear from the Poke Balls that scatter the stages. Aside from a glimpse of Xerneas’ head (which isn’t yet confirmed as a Poke Ball summon), we haven’t seen any support Pokemon in Sakurai’s “pic of the day” screenshots–until now.

Previously a stage hazard in Brawl‘s Spear Pillar stage, legendary Palkia can now be summoned in Smash 4. Being listed in the Pokedex as the “spatial Pokemon”, it’s rather fitting that Sakurai should present it in the Super Mario Galaxy stage. On Miiverse, Sakurai says:

“Palkia appeared in the Spear Pillar stage of the previous game…but now it’s coming out of a Poké Ball?! Here’s Palkia’s signature move, Spacial Rend!”

Which other elemental beasts would you like to see watching your back in the upcoming games?
