DYKG: Similarities between the Lost Woods and Super Mario World’s Forest of Illusion

In the Japanese versions of each game, the Lost Woods from Ocarina of Time and the Forest of Illusion from Super Mario World share the same name, ‘Mayoi no Mori’ (which translates to ‘Lost Forest’). Forest of Illusion also feature exits that send you around in circles, similar to the way that the Lost Woods will take you back to the entrance should you take a wrong turn.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen similarities occur across Zelda and Mario games, as a short while ago we had another interesting crossover reference in the Japanese versions of Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Bros. 2.

Although I’ve played both games, I must confess I never noticed this before! Anyone else know about this?
