In case you missed the massive news post we put out a few days ago, we at Zelda Universe and Zelda Informer have put together a plan that we call Operation Moonfall. This was done in response to Eiji Anouma’s statement, saying that if there was enough excitement/demand for a Majora’s Mask 3D remake that he might be inclined to get that done.  So we went all out, with a Facebook page, petition, and more, to make sure that Nintendo got the message: WE WANT MAJORA’S MASK 3D!

And recently, we’ve gotten a slightly encouraging response from Nintendo of America in reply to an email that one of our users, Zorathon, sent out. Read it after the jump!

Thanks for writing. We appreciate the enthusiasm of our Zelda fans! I can understand why you would like to see this game released for the Nintendo 3DS. I would like you to know that your comments have been documented and reported to the relevant departments here at Nintendo.
At the risk of dampening the excitement you feel, I must be clear that no official announcements have been made regarding a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 3DS. However, we like hearing what our consumers find important.
We hope you continue to enjoy the Nintendo 3DS and all the great titles currently available or on their way. Keep checking our website (Country Selector at Nintendo) for all the latest news andinformation.
Karla Lerback
Nintendo of America Inc.

Now this doesn’t sound encouraging whatsoever on its own. It sounds like a generic response, something we all get when we ask these questions.  But when compared to a reply about Operation Rainfall, it starts to sound better:

Thank you for your enthusiasm. We promised an update, so here it is. We never say “never,” but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!

Compare the “no official announcements have been made” of the Moonfall response to the “there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas” of the Rainfall response.  No official announcements DEFINITELY sounds better than having no plans.

On a slightly related note, Operation Moonfall now has a DeviantArt page/group! You can check it out, join, and post your own art in it to show your support for MM3D, like this small design for cartridge art for the game:

And one final thing: as of right now, the official petition has 10295 signatures! Keep it up, guys!

  • Super-Vaati

Let's show them how to bring the moon down! *puts Majora's Mask on* AAAAAAH!!!

    • shooflypi

      We… shall… CONSUME [Nintendo products] !

      • micky

this is stupid, nintendo knows you zelda whore will buy whatever crap this company makes. i mean this is very unimportant i hope you dorks know

        • kirby_freak

I'm glad you took your very important time to tell us how unimportant it is. Must be very unimportant for you to do that. *sarcasm*

        • Danimus

Going to a zelda fan site to insult zelda fans must be a very important hobby.

        • LinkFan

If you think it's crap, then what are you doing on a Zelda site

        • LINK KOKIRI

  • if 100,000 people want it how can Nintendo say no?

    • Matt

I hope that method works the same for Mega Man Legends 3,

    • santiago

This doesn't sound like a no. Anuma said that if they see enough support for majora's mask, that it wouldn't be impossible to see it on the 3DS soon. So, if people keep this up, I wouldn't be surprised to see the game next year (or the year after that). Also, apparently NoA is localizing the games (according to operation rainfall) so that's another thing 😀

      • mac

but it is impossible, i mean do you have any idea how long it takes to make a game thats already been created its complex work man your asking too much out of nintendo

        • Faleel

Not as long as making a game that has not been made already 😉

    • Dakrwargreymon

Welcome to fans of the mother series

    • Nintenfan81

      By saying "No" 😛

  • Zombeh

Give me a new 3DS model with better battery life and Majora's Mask 3D, and I'll definitely consider buying.

    • Darkwing

what. a $80 price drop not good enough for you? i tell you if the 3DS doesnt start selling more units, there probably won't be a next model…

    • Chicken Strips

For fuck sake, the 3DS lasts for about 5 hours. Who the fuck plays a DS for 5 hours straight without an adapter plugged into it? GET OVER IT. GOD.

      • Trolldad

Actually the 3DS only lasts 3-5 hours when you got:
        Volume at max
        3D at the highest level
        full brightness settings,
Just tone down the 3D and set the brightness a little lower then you get 8-15 hours

      • Zombeh

People that get out of the house often?

Also, when you're out of the house, you're more likely to be outside. When you're outside, you generally have to turn up the brightness to see the screen with sunglare.

Also, the 3DS has something called StreetPass. It drains on the battery while not in use, and is a feature you would generally use while in public.

The only time I'd be able to turn down the brightness and disable WiFi would be when I'm at home. I'd buy a handheld system that to be played outside, not something that I'm playing in my home.

    • xxx

      Because of f u c k i n g d o u c h e b a g s like you the 3DS is selling low and may never see a Majora's Mask remake.
      F u c k you mother f u c k e r

      • john

How can you be angry at people who either don't want or can't afford a 3DS? Surely it's because of Nintendo putting out such an expensive product with only one big title, which is a remake, on the current market that it isn't selling well.
        Calm down.

      • Zombeh

So, I'm obligated to buy a 3DS? I'm obligated to support Nintendo no matter what they do?

As a responsible consumer, I can't buy something that doesn't meet quality standards.

I'm not the one abandoning Nintendo, they're abandoning me with producing a poor quality handheld.

Once they decide to release a quality DS model, then I will return, and so will many other consumers.

        • Zombeh

          *quality 3DS model

        • santiago

The 3DS is pretty good quality, and with this price drop i wouldn't expect to see a new model for another 2-3 years. The only problem is the battery which is A LOT better than the PSP's and it lasts me about 7-8 hours because i turn of the wifi and enable power saver (which people don't seem to know exists)

          • Zombeh

That sounds nice, until you realize that, a year or two from now, your battery is 75% of the original capacity.

"With the backlight set to the brightest level and the power save mode turned off, battery duration was about three hours. But if you use the power save mode under the same conditions, it gets about 10–20 percent longer."

Again, it's near to impossible to see the screen without the brightness all the way up when not indoors. You're more likely to have that low end of the battery life when not near the charger.

So, what's wrong with waiting 2 years to purchase one? There'll be more games and, most likely, a new model.

    • Goldeblade

(Scoffs) For that, I'd do more than just consider! (Except I already have a 3DS) For that, you'd better buy it without thinking twice! That would be awesome! (Not that the 3DS isn't already awesome.)

  • mikeypizzalover

    Yes!!! This looks good!!!

On Majora's Mask 10th birthday, I MADE a Mask of Majora's Mask… IT IS EPIC!

  • 'I would like you to know that your comments have been documented and reported to the relevant departments here at Nintendo.'

I should've put more thought to my comment. I simply said 'Do want do want do want.'

  • crazy zelda fan

Nintendo of America never says never? Are they trying to be justin bieber now? lol

No, but seriously….. i hope nintendo makes the right decision and re-makes MM for the 3DS. Even tho i don't own a 3ds 🙁 i'll know that if nintendo makes a MM re-make, i'll have that to look forward to, i just have to get up $350 bucks. =/

    • 3DS is dropping in price to $170 so you will not have to spend that much!

      • mikeypizzalover

But Tax will make it be like, 200 bucks(at least where I live…) Then 50 for MM3D another 50 for OoT3D, the rest for this:

(hope it works this time…) or cake.

        • mikeypizzalover

          mainly cake, though

  • iglock

Sounds like they're basically saying- "We like what you're doing and are discussing it internally, but don't take this as confirmation yet."- which is really good news considering the operation only started less than a week ago!

Good to see that Notch retweeted it too. 😉

  • Gillooly9

I really hope this is made.

  • KaporaGabora

They kind of have to now. Wouldn't it be kind of a safe card for them too, when 3DS selling slow and so many fans have stated that they'll definitly buy the game and some even buying the console just because of it?

  • Trolldad

When I saw the fan cartridge art I actually thought it was official,
I hope that if Nintendo ever releases MM3D they would use that cartridge art

same recycled response when I asked them for Xenoblade…. really

    • Chad

yeah I don't think they realized that when they posted

  • you know, considering the wretchedly poor sales of the 3DS and Nintendo's recent acknowledgement of this, I don't think Nintendo will have a choice but to remake this game. They are bleeding money and this will be a great, and more important FAST way to promote their system further.

    • Operation Moonfall couldn't have taken place at a better time (regrettably at Nintendo's expense)

    • trolol

  • Magma

I sent an e-mail to them too and got the exact same response.

    • Cyber Ninja

I thought it was awesome that they emailed me back till i found out they emailed everybody the same thing.

  • Jakk

Nintendo should already know that a remake is wanted, this is pointless.

Quoted by me on a website: Nintendo is pure BULLSHIT.

    • santiago

Majora's mask sold like shit, and even though it's awesome not many people liked that game. I would like to see it, and we will probably see it eventually, but i don't think Nintendo would want to remake 2 zelda games in one year, maybe next year or NEXT next year.

  • zeldafreak35

man already over 9000 signatures yesterday now over 10k today

    • Darkwargreymon

      OVER 9000!

Sorry I'm sure I will get voted down but I had to

  • zeldafreak35

didnt miyamoto or someone from nintendo say that there wount be another model for the 3ds

    • Soeroah

Oh, really? (laughs) But he was right. That's why we don't have any short-term plans for creating a more compact version of Nintendo 3DS like we did with Nintendo DS Lite. (laughs)

Yeah. (laughs) When making Nintendo 3DS, we used all our tricks for Nintendo DS Lite—and more—for cutting down on size right from the start.

No short-term plans for making a new 3DS model according to them. I'm not sure why people are talking about waiting for a second 3DS model before they get one, but I suppose it's possible in a few years or something.

  • I take back my previous comment that Majoras Mask 3D would never happen but if it does someone will start a Wind Waker 3D campaign.

    • lee

another one is start a link to the past campaign. the game is hugely popular or was for its time. imagine graphics upgraded to oot or higher. the quest is nothing short of epic and immersive. picture entering the dark world as a bunny the first time once you find the magic mirror. the pyramid itself would be awesome. the enemies will keep you on your toes of course. was links hair really purplish pink?

    • therednose96

I'm pretty sure Wind Waker WAS 3D capable, so it wouldn't be too hard.
When I say "3D capable," I mean like how Iwata said Luigi's Haunted Mansion was. It's just that the system wasn't ready for 3D.

    • some guy

wink waker 3D sounds a lot better than majora's mask 3D

  • crazymallets

Nintendo pretty much said the same to Operation Rainfall, and looked what happened. Don't get your hopes up.

    • Guest

The difference is that Eiji Aonuma told us to let them know we want MM3D. He opened the door for us, we're just responding to his offer.

  • Brian Buckley

I got the exact same mail lol

  • MM rules!

This could be awesome! I actually like MM better than OoT in some respects, and so I'll be very pleased to see a remastered version on the 3DS.

In other news, I know this is kind of mean, but I kind of chuckled when she said "…great games currently available…" 😛

  • The Iron Giant

An article dedicated to the auto responses of Nintendo? I clicked this link imagining a legitimate response to the fandom. 🙁

But It's good to see that Operation Moonfall is going strong! Hopefully they do not know Oath to Order…

  • GiSWiG

I hate to look at it logically, but I don't see MM3DS coming out soon, if not in a few years, if not ever. Logic wise, the programing logic is already there for these games. The visual aspect (textures, 3D etc) is the difficult part.

The 3DS is new technology and has potential for much more than the old consoles' games can do. Take OoT3DS for example. I LOVE the ability to move the 3DS to target with sling shot, and look around. The screen buttons are great. The graphics are improved but what much more is there? I watch my son play How to Train Your Dragon on his DS Lite and the touch screen in used 95% or more than the real buttons.

The younger gamers out number the old gamers who grew up with the good ol Zeldas (mine being the first Zelda for the NES). XBOX, PS3, WiiU all have Hi-Def graphics. The younger gamers look at the old console graphics vs. the new and will go for the new. So will a lot of the older gamers. I'm an 'old' gamer at 35 and out of my co-workers (30+) of the same age, I only know 3 that have a Wii, no one that has a DS anything, and about 20 of those 30 having an XBOX or PS3. I have kids so Wii was the best choice for me and I'm loyal to Mario, Link and Samus.

Now even the younger players are buying up OoT3DS. It has hit 1 million sales. Remember though, there is no link for MM at the end of OoT3DS but here is re-play value in having Master Quest available. We'll see a new Zelda appear on the 3DS before a MM GAMECARD! I hope to see it as at least a Virtual Console download, 3D'd but not the improved textures seen in OoT3DS. I did just sign the petition, but it will take more than the 11,000 sig's I just saw to see Nintendo bring us MM3DS.

P.S., there is a price cut coming for the 3DS and looks like for those who have one before this cut, will get about 10 console games free and 'The Legend of Zelda' has been confirmed as one of those!

  • Fray

Who wants rebundled regurgetated Zelda games?

The game will only have repolished graphics and then slap you with a $70 price tag for a game you already have played.

No wonder Nintendo are keen to release the game, all the work has been done.

    • Trolldad

      3DS games range from $35-$50.
If your gonna troll do it properly

    • Dartanion

      3ds games never go past 40$ >.>

      • Trolldad

It does in some different countries,
besides maybe that will change someday

    • Keith

  • matt17

Someone should make a bunch of facebok accounts JUST to like that facebook page.

    • Shaelyn

I'd like MM to be released as much as everyone else, but not this way. you don't want to make it seem that there are more people for this project than there really are. if 100 people all made 10 extra facebook accounts for this, that's 1000 people that Nintendo thinks are interested, but are all fake. then when the game gets made and sales tank, well…what would Nintendo say or do then?

that's just an example, but the amount of fake facebook accounts it would take to make a difference alongside the real ones…it isn't worth it.

  • matt17

I just found out that you can sign twice, just use a different email address and name 🙂

  • Zelda777

I am currently only playing the game for the first time. Other than a few flaws, it is amazing. Definitely one of the best Zelda titles. It doesn’t surpass OOT but is close. And it happens that I am only planning on getting a 3DS now that it is cheaper. (couldn’t afford it before). So wile I feel out of hand signing or anything I might in the future like to see it 3D

  • LoveTheLegend

Nintendo jsut told us to Never say Never. xD (Justin Beiber much?). Well good for them cause WE WILL FIGHT TILL FOREVER TO GET OUR MM REMAKE!! 😀

    • Trolldad

      Thats bad,
for example 1000 people would send it twice then Nintendo would think that 2000 people really wants it then when they start producing the copies they would get encouraged and produce too many copies.
Now when they start SELLING the copies half of it would be left unsold,
the risk of Nintendo going bankrupt will be high and that would be bad.

      • trolol

trolololol you worry too much. nintendo wont go bankrupt over that, even people who dont read this site will still buy it. noob.

        • Trolldad

          I said its a RISK,
Square was close to going bankrupt when they released the final fantasy movies.
But your right maybe I do worry too much

          • Aln

You're acting like we're the only ones who will buy it,
There are thousands of people who bought Oot 3d and have NO IDEA that majora's mask or operation moonfall exists, chances are, when they see majora's mask, they will buy it

  • Soeroah

I'm pretty sure I heard some 'Never say never' song in a Disney movie when I was 12. Why is everyone referring to this Beiber person?

  • Got the same email today ;P

  • Cyber Ninja

I thought it was awesome that they emailed me back till i found out they emailed everybody the same thing. 🙁

  • Austin

yeah i think it would be really cool if they made Majoras Mask 3DS remake the Ocarina of Time 3DS is awesome.

  • 8D!

I just got the email! It's just copy/paste, but it interestingly is missing one line. "I can understand why you would like to see this game released for the Nintendo 3DS." That line was completely removed from the message i received. That's awfully strange. I'm hoping it carries no meaning, but you never know.

    • TheMaverickk

The're all message templates that these Nintendo reps use, but then they usually add a distinct ambiguous unique line to personalize the message to make everyone feel special, and that their letter mattered.

      Doesn't mean anything really.

  • umyeah

honestly, I don’t see this happening.

    • TheMaverickk

Personally I see them making it for the 3DS…. I think they would've done it either way, you are just going to have to wait a year or two in either case.

I don't think this campaign will make a difference…. I think they already plan to remake Majora's Mask. It's just a matter of time before they do it.

It's Zelda, when has Nintendo not made use of an opportunity to make money off their biggest franchises. Whether they are re-releasing on the GBA, or they are releasing Collector Edition Discs to promote game releases, or putting the titles up on their eShop. People are petitioning this as if Zelda was dead and dying. I'm sorry but there are far greater gaming causes….

  • Keith

I wouldn't expect anything soon. I mean, OoT3D is still damn new. They probably want to get Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Luigi's Mansion 2, and maybe Paper Mario out of the way first. I know it'd be Grezzo handling MM3D but still I don't know if Nintendo wants to throw it in the mix just yet. Maybe at E3 next year we'll hear something, but I wouldn't put money on anytime sooner than that as nice as it'd be. So don't give up hope, they're probably just overwhelmed atm with all that they are currently working on. And who knows what else Grezzo may be doing. I'm sure they may have projects of their own they want to do.

  • Spustatu

I actually wrote Nintendo asking them to focus on a new Zelda for the 3DS and not Majora's Mask. If Grezzo works on it, there will still need to be someone from the Zelda team, maybe Aonuma, who has to oversee it and that will more than likely slow down a new Zelda. Majora's Mask was great, but I'd rather have something new. Nintendo responded, too. I'm apparently the only one to have written about wanting new games more than old ones. Is that really the message we want to be sending Nintendo?

  • Vio

Bah, why didn't anyone kick up this much fuss when Miyamoto said he wanted to see ALttP in 3D? I love MM, but I would kill to see ALttP on the 3DS in some fashion.

Now I'm afraid it'll get overlooked in favour of pushing out a quick remake of MM. Sigh. Is 2D Zelda dead already?

    • Aln

That would Be a nice 3d classics game, but The main reason people didn't ask for that is because A link to the past was good BACK IN THE DAY, Today it shows it's age horribly With horribly subtle clues, frusterating difficulty (for younger gamers) and lack of storytelling

  • Jerônimo

At the end of my e-mail, I said, "sorry if I wrote something wrong, I am Brazilian". My response was translated into portuguese. That means that Nintendo IS reading all our messages!!!

  • In case you missed the massive news post we put out a few days But when compared to a reply about Operation Rainfall, it starts to sound better: .. compact version of Nintendo 3DS like we did with Nintendo DS Lite. ..

  • Mazie Kempon

John#21,What? You don’t think we should use our first round pick on a kicker next year?
