While the official word from Nintendo on the Skyward Sword release date is still Holidays 2011, Best Buy has set the release date on Skyward Sword for September 25, 2011. Note that this date is a Sunday, a day where Nintendo typically releases things. Some of you may remember us posting on this before, when the date was first posted on Best Buy’s site. But after we posted, the date was removed, and now it’s back. Do you think this is for real? Comment below!

There seems to be some sort of agreement between different stores that SS might release sometime between september and november.

A few stores in my native Norway have set the release date ranging from 30th september to 5th November. I guess we just have to wait and see. Guess we will know a lot more by the middle of August.

I saw this in Best Buy a few weeks ago. I know it may be improbable but I really hope it's released then! I’m ready to fly on colorful ducks and fight Debbi, urr, Ghirahim!

  • fudge you

    i can only hope

  • KingDodongo1

I doubt it, but that would be awesome.

  • No. Nintendo did the same thing with Super Mario Galaxy.

  • Zuchery

Gamestop said it would be out November 2nd. Bestbuy says September 25th. Nintendo says "Holiday" 2011. An insert in the Ocarina of Time 3DS box says "Fall" 2011. I am so confused.

i trust gamestop, they were right about ocarina of time 3D

  • Jailin

Fat chance. Best Buy isn't really a legitamte soure. Holiday Release isn't a detailed date as there are many holidays in Japan and U.S. throught the months. So don't start thinking Best Buy must be close part ners with Nintendo if it's released around the end of the September. I would like to fight Debbie(Ghiriham) soon though.

When you get Ocarina of Time 3D, there is a pamphlet that shows upcoming Zelda games coming out for the 25th Anniversary. It showed Skyward Sword as coming out This Fall.

  • Justin

it's odd how a bunch of sources are now pointing at a fall release for skyward sword, first NOE's press site, then the insert in the OOT 3D case, all of which contradict Nintendo's official statement

  • They could have freaking avoided this by actually GIVING a date at E3! Not this holiday BS.

    • Keimori

Who says Nintendo WANTED to avoid this?
by leaveing it vauge they can create more hype by getting people to talk, kinda like we are now.

  • 72hours192

Nerds like me can only hope. I really want a bigger Zelda game (I beat the DS games in a matter of weeks). You know, heart pieces, weapon upgrades, new equipment…yeeeeaaah…..

  • Link16

Well, Nintendo has to tell us the release date sooner or later they can't keep hiding the release date for that much longer.

    • Anonymous

well I think they'll disclose the actual date at the Tokyo Game Show.

  • cloverplayer

All I can say is I hope this is true. Whenever it comes out (excluding 2012) is fine with me, although the sooner the better!

  • Leftyrock91

September 25th sounds great to me, especially since Nintendo will be able to focus the holiday season on the 3DS.

  • I sure do want it to be real… but chances are it's not. I have a feeling it won't be out until November.

  • happyman

    My 13th birthday is September 23! šŸ˜‰

    • Grówli

my 20th birthday is September 24. hope this is true so we can celebrate with awesomeness.

  • The earlier, the better. I hope it's real too. šŸ™‚

  • i hope not… i want it earlier.

  • Ok…. first off, they didn't take it down from the people that preordered it. I have had this preordered since February of this year (thinking it would be out in the second quarter). At that time, Best Buy's website had it listed for the beginning of July (I believe the 3rd). At the beginning of April, I got an email stating that the release date was changed to September 25th. I was a little bummed, but it's Zelda and expected since I've bought them all since 1987. I checked back every week and it has always said September 25th since then — nothing has changed. I know that Best Buy has some sort or arrangement with Nintendo, but I don't think that gives them inside info to releases that other large chains don't have yet. We will see Skyward Sword sometime between September and December and won't know for sure until 1.5 to 2 months before release. I am more excited about this Zelda than any other I have ever purchased (and I have purchased them all — was least excited about Wind Waker and it surprised me and is now my 2nd favorite to date (after Majora's Mask)). We can all cross our fingers that it's the 25th of September, but don't pour your hearts into that being the day. With ALL Zelda's – past, present and future, you won't know for sure until 1.5 to 2 months before. Just enjoy the rumors, stories and articles and videos by wonderful sites like this one. I know I visit this site as well as 3 others every day. The articles, speculation and general discussions get me by and fully entertain me…. not to mention they give me my "fix" since I am a Zelda addict. Hmmmm…. I wonder if they have a Z.A.A. (Zelda Addicts Anonymous)? LOL!!!

Typing in ALL CAPS doesn't make anyone want to listen to you.

  • zeldafan206

im hoping it will come out fall 2011 like it said inside the ocarina of time case but we will just have to see.

    • Keimori

Well Fall can be anytime between September 22 and Dcember 22 so thats a verry vague timeframe.

  • Elijah

The sooner the better, I am a huge Zelda fan like the rest of us. Yes, Christmas time would be a good time, but, they need to consider how long they've had us wait. Also, the other many titles that are coming out this season too, they need to focus on. It'll be good for them as well as us to stick with the fall date.

Wikipedia's definition of a "Holiday release":

"The term "holiday" is also commonly used to refer to the December gift-giving season; businesses may announce, for example, that a product will be available "for Holiday 2011", meaning that it will be available in time for Christmas shopping."

Meaning it will probably be out in December, and most big Zelda games have been released in November or December. BUT isn't it possible that "Holiday" might also mean it can be released around Halloween?

This link shows a picture of the Ocarina of Time 3D insert. http://www.zeldainformer.com/images/news/SS_Fall_
My prediction: It will come out in fall, probably in November. I think an insert is a pretty legitimate source. Maybe Nintendo put the insert with the FALL release date on purpose, as a benefit for those who spent their money on their latest 3DS game. Like a "Thanks for buying Ocarina of Time 3D! A small hint for you, dear costumer, is that Skyward Sword is coming out this Fall so be sure to get yourself a copy! šŸ˜€

There are about 52 Sundays a year so I don't want to get my hopes up just to be dissapointed.
