In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Eiji Aonuma stated once more that Skyward Sword is expected to hit shelves in early 2011. While the full interview can be read in the August issue of the magazine, ONM revealed only the following direct quotes from Mr. Aonuma online:
“The basis we have now is very, very solid,” Aonuma told ONM in an exclusive interview that appears in the August issue of the magazine which goes on sale today. “Early 2011 – that is what we’re aiming for.”
That Nintendo intends to release Skyward Sword early in 2011 isn’t exactly new information – Aonuma also said in an interview with Gamespot that the new title is expected to be released early next year, and Miyamoto himself stated when the game was first revealed at E3 that it would be in production through the end of 2010.
However, this reinforcement of the release date is reassuring for a fanbase that is all-too-familiar with delays. Despite solid release dates being set in place, Twilight Princess was pushed back several times. That Skyward Sword’s early 2011 release is being continuously confirmed can be interpreted as a good sign, as it suggests that Nintendo is very confident about this particular release date.
Release dates, though, can always be changed, regardless of confirmation and confidence. It’s this oft-proven fact that make release dates a major point of discussion, skepticism and concern for gamers loyal to any franchise.
So what do you think? Will Nintendo hold true to their word this time around, or will unforeseeable circumstances leave us waiting around for Skyward Sword? We’re eager to hear your opinions, so leave them in the comments!
