Pit is back!

The star of the Kid Icarus series finally returns to his own series after a nearly two decade absence.

Coyly acknowledging the fan demand for his return, Pit swoops into frame in the official trailer with “Sorry I kept you waiting!” And kept us waiting he did!

Many fans are too young to remember the original Kid Icarus for the Nintendo Entertainment System, but it was released in 1986 on the heals of the original The Legend of Zelda and Metriod, featuring sidescrolling action adventure like a cross between Super Mario Bros. and Metriod with ability-enhancing items like Zelda. A sequel for the original Game Boy was released in 1991, and that was the last we’d seen of Pit, apart from a guest starring role in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

More after the jump!

We know very little about the plot at this point, but what we do know is that it once again pits Pit against the Queen of Darkness (Medusa), aided by the Queen of Light of Angel Land. And, as seen in the last moments of the trailer, the Eggplant Wizard is set to return as well!

Set to be a launch title for the Nintendo 3DS, Kid Icarus: Uprising looks to be a triumphant return with quick-fire archery, a limited ability of flight, and fast-speed action. How the 3D aspect is featured remains to be seen. But you can be sure that Nintendo won’t disappoint with a long-awaited sequel coupled with a 3DS launch title!
