The quest to complete seven games in seventy hours has begun, starting with the Mario Marathon guys over at mariomarathon.com. They began at 8pm EST, yesterday, with the original Legend of Zelda game. Having finished both the original Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link overnight, the Mario Marathon folk are currently playing A Link to the Past.

Cameron Banga and all of Team Four48 are expected to begin playing at around 6pm EST. We’ll be covering the event as it unfolds, and possibly return with fun interviews and media to fuel the charity event. In the meantime, hit the jump for a video feed and keep up with the Zelda action for the next two days. if you’re feeling generous, donate a buck or two (or ten) to their cause – with a goal to raise $2000 for Child’s Play.

Updates

About 8:30am: The Mario Marathon team has finished the first three Zelda games. It seems they’ve moved on to playing random Zelda games, beginning with The Minish Cap, until it’s Team Four48’s turn to take over. At this time they’ve raised $1231, more than half of their goal.

About 1:30pm: Team Four48 has begun their part of the marathon. They’re currently playing Ocarina of Time and will be working their way through the games for the next two days. Good luck, guys!

8:54pm: They’ve beaten OoT and have moved on the Majora’s Mask. Hey guys, if you get stuck on something in MM, like you said you would, why not run to ZU’s Majora’s Mask section for some information? 😛

About 3:10pm: They’ve begun The Wind Waker. It looks like they’re well on track to finish by tomorrow!

When I woke up on Sunday… they had gotten nearly all the way through Twilight Princess, currently fighting Blizzaga. In addition, they reached their $2000 goal! Congratulations, guys!

Wishing luck to both the MarioMarathon team and Team 448! Here’s hoping they can dash through those Zeldas at lightning speed. As said earlier, we’ll be covering the entire event as it unfolds, so check back for updates to this post often.

And, of course, please feel compelled to donate to the purpose of this marathon, the charity:
