ZUthon, our annual charity Zelda marathon, is happening from July 30 to August 3 this year, with the aim to raise as much money as possible for Direct Relief.
The marathon, which will be broadcast on our Twitch channel, will run nonstop for 100 hours, and during that time our team will be playing all manner of Zelda games and challenges. We’ll release our schedule closer to the event, but, as a sneak peek, we’re planning events such as an Ocarina of Time multi-world randomizer, races through some of the games, and favorites including Majora’s Mask, Breath of the Wild, and Link’s Awakening. There’ll also be a bunch of fun incentives where you — the viewer — can help spice things up for everyone’s entertainment, all while supporting a great cause.
We usually run ZUthon from a central location, with a few extra people dialing in, but we’ll be doing things a bit differently this year due to COVID-19. Our team will be spread out and streaming from multiple locations, but that shouldn’t make too much of a difference overall.
Speaking of COVID-19, we’ve chosen to raise money for Direct Relief this year in part due to the incredible work they’ve been doing to assist with relief efforts during the coronavirus crisis. This includes delivering personal protective equipment to health workers, and supporting intensive care units with medication and equipment. When we’re not in the middle of a global pandemic, they provide humanitarian medical aid all around the world with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies –- without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay.
Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we announce more details about ZUthon, including some special guests. If you would also consider putting aside some money to donate during our marathon, we would be incredibly grateful!
