Yuga’s Art Gallery: Majora’s Mask cosplay with tutorial

Today is both the 20th anniversary of Majora’s Mask’s release in the United States and the start of Zelda Universe’s weeklong celebration for Halloween. This being the case, it seemed like the perfect time to take a look back at this beautiful handmade Majora’s Mask that our News team shared with us earlier in the year.

Cosplayers have a love for their craft, and YOGA Cosplay, the creator of this mask, shows that love in a big way. Not only does his YouTube video showcase an admirably clean and detailed replica of the Majora’s Mask, but it also provides a guide for how to make one for yourself. It’s this type of dedication, the effort taken to help other people enjoy the mask, that shows how much care YOGA Cosplay has.

The tutorial shows every step of the process. From starting by cutting some EVA foam to tracing and painting every pattern, YOGA Cosplay makes it clear what all needs to be done so you can pretend you’re the Skull Kid and use your evil magic to make 2020 even more 2020-er. OK, maybe you don’t have to go that far, but the point is that this video can easily help you get into character with the mask.

And what a mask it is. It’s as perfect of a replica as one can get to the real and sinister deal. The proportions match, the colors are vibrant and accurate with no bleeding or mixing of the hues, and the whole thing has a bright, vibrant sheen to it.

It’s once YOGA Cosplay shows the mask in all of its glory at the end of the video that it truly sinks in what a great concept this cosplay project is. It’s just the mask, not a whole costume, but it’s the Majora’s Mask, and that’s all you really need. Start from the beginning video, pay close attention, have some patience and some willpower, and by the end of the video, you’ll have your favorite Halloween mask ever. It’s a shame I’ve never had the aforementioned patience and willpower for cosplay and costumes specifically, but I’m content to be an admirer.

Props to YOGA Cosplay for having such a love for what he does. He’s actually done a few more Zelda-inspired cosplay creations, and his YouTube channel has other interesting videos for those who love all things cosplay. Make sure to check it all out. And if you’re fast with a utility knife and can paint like the wind, you could be doing Halloween the right way this weekend.

Happy Halloween! We’re counting down to the 31st with horror-themed articles all week long, so be sure to shamble over to our Halloween Week 2020 page if you’re hungry for more!
