Zelda developers reveal who their favorite Age of Imprisonment characters are

A recent interview with 4gamer, a Japanese video game website, revealed a number of things about what went on behind the scenes of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment! This interview was with two prominent figures in the Zelda scene, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, director of Tears of the Kingdom and Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda series. The interview also included the input of a few members of the Koei Tecmo team, too.

These two ended up sharing who their favorite characters from the game were and some insight into their development!

Starting off with Fujibayashi, he stated that his favorite character was the Mysterious Construct because of its role in the game and how action packed the character ended up being. He pointed out all of the hard work and “pains of creation” that the Zelda and Koei Tecmo teams put into creating another original character for the game.

As for Aonuma, his favorite character turned out to be Calamo, who he actually believed wouldn’t be a fighter at first. The lovable Korok’s character development and growth throughout the story as a character, especially as one who was intended to be the comic relief of the team, was what made him capture Aonuma’s heart.

It turns out that Aonuma was actually the one to suggest giving Calamo his signature hat. He thought that adding the hat would help with establishing the essence of him being an older brother character that the team was trying to establish.

Fujibayashi also noted the importance of the roles that both of the characters play via a rough translation from Japanese to English.

“Even in the Imprisoning War, [which was what] we were thinking about during the development of Tears of the Kingdom, we thought there was someone who was attracting the monsters that flooded the surface [during] Rauru’s and his friends’ battle. When we decided that it was them, all the scattered ideas up until that point came together neatly. In the game, they solve various problems, and that was the same for us.”
