Nintendo warns NSO users about phishing scam emails

Scammers are impersonating as Nintendo in an attempt to steal the data of Nintendo Switch Online users. The emails look like official notifications asking if you’d like to renew your subscription. If they are opened, dangerous malware could be downloaded to your device. Unlucky recipients who click on the link in the email have the chance to be targeted more in the future. If you enter any sensitive data, it could potentially lead to you becoming a victim of financial fraud. Nintendo has issued an official statement on the matter.

“Caution: We are currently aware of phishing emails disguised as information about the automatic renewal purchases for our service, Nintendo Switch Online, which lead users to suspicious websites,” says Nintendo. “The link (URL) in the email may be a phishing site. Do not open the link and delete the email immediately.”

Nintendo further emphasizes that genuine emails related to Nintendo Accounts will always come from no-reply@accounts.nintendo.com. Hopefully you will never get hacked, but if you suspect foul play is happening with your NSO account, you can find out what to do about the situation through Nintendo’s recomendations here.
