Nintendo financials released: Switch outsells 3DS with 79.87 million Switch hardware sales

Nintendo has released its financials for the nine-month period ending December 31, 2019. As expected, the company has done exceedingly well in its continued success with Nintendo Switch console and games sales, among other financial factors.

Overall net sales were up 37.3% year-on-year, wherein Nintendo sold 24.1 million hardware units, a 35.8% increase year-on-year: 16.77 million were the Nintendo Switch, and 7.33 million were the Switch Lite. Also, Nintendo sold 176.1 million units of software during this period, a 43.0% increase year-on-year.

With this, the Nintendo Switch has now reached 79.87 million lifetime sales, surpassing the Nintendo 3DS’s 75.94 million units. Also, with 11.57 million units sold last quarter, Nintendo Switch sold more units last quarter than the Wii has ever achieved in its quarterly sales.

With digital sales up 104.9% year-on-year, Nintendo recognized that “sales were strong for downloadable versions of packaged software for Nintendo Switch.” Nintendo has had 29 million-selling games. Notably, “there were 29 titles which sold over one million units for this fiscal year, including titles from other software publishers.”
