The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was one of the few games that left fans surprised when it was released. It was only the second game in the series to feature Princess Zelda herself as the primary playable character, the first being Zelda’s Adventure which was released back in 1994. The blend of old and new elements shown throughout the Zelda series made it into something special. A game developer unaffiliated with Nintendo would also come to agree. During an interview with Famitsu magazine, Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy XVI, has declared Echoes of Wisdom to be an “amazing” game.
He says that even other developers, especially those that are new to the industry, should play the game to get a grasp on how game design works and have a better understanding of how to incorporate it into their own games. Yoshida also voiced his own perspective and explained what makes it such a great game and learning tool for new developers:
“The base resources in Echoes of Wisdom are almost the same as other Zelda games, but by focusing on all of their efforts on the fun of the game, they’ve kept production costs at a minimum. That’s why, with the understanding that sales may not grow explosively as the main game, they are challenging themselves to ‘make it more fun’. I would encourage anyone aspiring to become a game developer or who is just starting their career to try playing this game from that perspective. For me, it is a very noteworthy title.”
