A group of modders on Youtube called Newer Team has created a new mod combining the games of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney called Hero of Law. They have previously created other mods that have risen to popularity such as a sequel to New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Another Super Mario 3D, which changes the story of Super Mario 64 DS. Hero of Law tells the story of the aftermath of the murder of Talon, the lazy owner of Lon Lon Ranch and takes place in a courtroom. Instead of fighting Ganondorf, Link finds himself in the world of law as Hyrule’s top defense attorney. This time, however, he is defending Malon, who has been accused of murdering her father.
The gameplay is similar to the original Ace Attorney games with you listening to witnesses of the crime who give evidence. The main goal is to present the current piece of evidence from the court records and uncover the truth about the case. As that Link is now an attorney, he has been given the ability to speak. This is the first fan-made Zelda game for him to do so. It also reportedly works on most emulators and the N64 considering you have Ocarina of Time and the expansion pack. It supports the voice recognition unit in addition to other N64 accessories.
A contributor to the project believes the mod is a success. They praised all the hard work done by everyone in a Youtube comment.
“We spent a lot of time working on this one, making sure the logic was mostly ironclad, easy to follow, and that the jokes landed. I think we did a good job. This has been years in the working, so any support is very appreciated.”
