Tingle’s Maps: Zelda’s Room (Echoes of Wisdom)

Although Echoes of Wisdom is Zelda’s first solo adventure as the heroine who will save Hyrule, a Princess is still entitled to her royal quarters. After regaining access to Hyrule Castle, Zelda once again may find respite in her bedroom.

Resting between two radiant beams of sunlight shining through ornate windows is Zelda’s bed. Ensconced within the shade of fine canopy drapes, this bed is covered in fine blue sheets and woven with the softest Hyrulian cotton and silks. It’s finished off with a decorative bed runner, embroidered with a Triforce pattern. A bed fit for a princess, nay—a queen. Like all beds, Zelda can sleep here to restore hearts, and even copy it as an Echo and bring her royal bed anywhere she would like. Zelda isn’t the only princess here; in this room you’ll also find a very sleepy cat. The cat doesn’t react to your presence as she is often sleeping, but she might have something to say if Zelda has the Cat Clothes equipped.

Moving to the right side of the room, we find a nightstand topped with a few thick tomes and a potted plant. It makes me ponder what exactly Zelda enjoys reading. Does she prefer imaginative fiction such as tales of chivalry, or perhaps she is more scholarly, opting for philosophy or science books? Against the wall is a candlelit vanity with what appears to be some makeup and jewelry cases (because she slays more than monsters). Finally, there is a couch which I presume she uses for lounging or hosting company.

To the left of the room we see two white armoires; on top we see another potted plant and a doll version of her beautiful white horse. In the top left corner is a small tree that she has managed to grow indoors. But let’s not forget the art that attempts to cover those brutalist stone walls. She has three paintings: one appears to be a landscape; another a painting of a floral arrangement; and lastly she keeps a self-portrait above her vanity mirror—what irony!

At first glance, this may look like an ordinary bedroom of random models cobbled together by the developers, but I believe they made some intentional artistic choices here. The decor of this room shows Zelda’s love for the outdoors; she has beautiful flora in every corner of the room, a doll of her pony, even a landscape painting. She may have been forced into the Hero’s role, but her love for adventure is always present.
