With Echoes of Wisdom only days away now, Nintendo has blessed us with even more sneak-peeks. We now have new looks galore at the game through trailers, promotional videos, the Japanese website, a game demo, review footage, and a new commercial. This is an update on the previous list of enemies in Echoes of Wisdom. Put together, these articles cover every confirmed or potential enemy known at the time of publishing.
To recap, there is a staggering enemy variety already confirmed, and the list only keeps growing. Now there are 43 confirmed enemies as far as we know, with 26 of them confirmed as echoes, or copies of monsters that Princess Zelda can control at her bidding. There are also 10 more potential enemies shown that have varying likelihoods of hostility. Once the game releases, Echoes of Wisdom could have the largest variety of enemies any Zelda game has ever had in years. For reference, Breath of the Wild only had 20 enemy varieties (including bosses), and Tears of the Kingdom had 37.
We’ve also seen 12 potential enemies that are new to Echoes of Wisdom. Some of their names are now confirmed, but other enemy names are still technically a mystery and are purely speculative at the time this article was written.
New enemies confirmed as echoes:
Tangler

We got our first look at a brand new enemy, called a Tangler, in the “Save Hyrule Your Way” commercial. The fish enemy appears to be an aggressive relative to the Angler Fry that will appear in rivers and oceans in the overworld.
Ignizol

Ignizols are band new enemies in Echoes of Wisdom. Zelda will be able to use them as echoes to burn enemies and flammable objects in her environment. She can also use them to light up dark passageways. While previously referred to as a “Candle Zol,” Nintendo’s released footage to reviewers confirms the official name of the new enemy is now Ignizol.
Rain Zol

Zelda is seen with another new Zol variant that collects rainwater to grow in size. Its function as an echo is unknown, but it may come in handy when solving puzzles that will require you to put a damper on the problem.
Name confirmed: Strandtula

What was previously thought to be a Skulltula is actually a brand new spider enemy called a Strandtula, as revealed in Nintendo’s released footage to reviewers. In the reveal trailer, Zelda is seen creating echoes of Strandtulas and using their webs to climb across a gap.
Walltula

In the “Traversing Hyrule” trailer, Zelda shows off her Bind and Reverse Bond abilities with a wall-climbing spider, which we now know is likely a Walltula. If so, it would be the first appearance of Walltulas in a 2D Zelda game.
Octorok

One of the first enemies encountered in the original Zelda NES game. Octoroks have appeared frequently in just about every Zelda game except Twilight Princess. They’re mainly seen in promotional art so far for Echoes of Wisdom, but a fire Octorok was shown in footage of Eldin volcano. Zelda is also seen using a wind-up Octorok in the reveal trailer, which was later revealed to be an Automaton. In an ad for the game, an Octorok is seen in Zelda’s inventory.
Name Confirmed: Caromadillo

A new enemy to Echoes of Wisdom that has been heavily featured in Nintendo’s promotional material for the game. We previously dubbed it as simply an Armadillo in the previous article. Zelda is shown using an echo of a Caromadillo and reverse bond to quickly travel along with it while it rolls. Nintendo’s released footage to promoters confirms the name of the enemy, and shows Zelda using an echo of one to break a series of crates.
Darknut

The announcement trailer begins with a shot of Link fighting some Darknuts on his way to rescue Princess Zelda, and the “Save Hyrule” commercial showed Zelda using Darknuts as echoes. Darknuts are one of the tougher enemies in the series and a favorite mini-boss for many fans. They’ve been around since the original Legend of Zelda, but have been sorely missed for almost two decades. Their most recent appearance was Twilight Princess in 2006. That will finally change.
New enemies unconfirmed as echoes:

Link
In perhaps the biggest twist so far, Link is revealed to be under the control of… something. He’s seen attacking Zelda in the Still World. In Twilight Princess and Spirit Tracks, Link has had to fight possessed “puppets” of Zelda. It appears Link could be under a similar influence. Observant fans have noticed Zelda picks up Link’s sword in the same room where he attacks her, so perhaps she gains the ability to use her sword form after facing off against our favorite hero.
Name Confirmed: Seismic Talus

In the final shot of the reveal trailer and in pictures released on the Japanese website, Zelda is seen confronting a giant stone golem, called a Seismic Talus. It contains a purple and black core similar to the color scheme of the rifts and Still World, so fans have speculated it is connected in some way to them. In the “Still World” trailer, the Talus was confirmed to appear as a boss. Zelda will have to use her echoes to attack its core, which can move around to different parts of its body. Talus variants were new enemies beginning in Breath of the Wild, and it’s nice to see them continue to evolve in new entries in the series.
Volvagia

The fan favorite boss makes its return! Volvagia was the dragon boss at the end of the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time, a wingless fire dragon that flew in and out of lava holes in the ground. In the trailer, the dragon is wearing a necklace with a green orb that may act as its weak spot, or perhaps it’s a Bond / Reverse Bond point of contact. While unconfirmed if the boss shown in the “Still World” trailer is Volvagia itself, it appears to be closely related to or heavily inspired by the classic enemy.
Lynel

As seen on the promotional image of the Still World, Lynels will be making a return. Originally a classic 2D enemy, Lynels have gained a new reputation in the series as one of the hardest enemies in Breath of the Wild. They will appear in Echoes with a new design reminiscent of the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, but in adorable chibi style.
Zirro

A promotional video of Eldin Volcano showed Zirro (also called Bombers) flying over a path. Zirro are flying mushroom enemies that droop bombs, only appearing in A Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, and A Link Between Worlds so far. They are seen flying high above the cliffs, so Zelda may need to get extra creative with her echoes to defeat them.
Goo Specter

If you don’t recognize this enemy, it’s for a very good reason. The Goo Specter, also known as a Camo Goblin, is an enemy seen only once before in the Color Dungeon, a bonus dungeon appearing exclusively in the Gameboy Color and Nintendo Switch versions of Link’s Awakening. These enemies hide in the ground before popping up, usually blending in with the floor. Link’s Awakening had green, blue, and red variants. A green version was seen in the “Still World” trailer.
Still World Spawner

Floating bubble like creatures are seen inside the Still World and emerging from riffs, spawning Still World enemies when they come in contact with Zelda. Its unclear if Zelda will be able to attack these spawner creatures, or if they can only be defeated by defeating the spawned monsters.
Unconfirmed potential enemies:
Dragonfly

In a promotional video for Jabul Waters, a Dragonfly enemy is seen in one brief shot. Dragonflies were only previously seen as an enemy in Majora’s Mask, where they have electric tails that swing down to shock Link. If they are confirmed, this will be their second appearance after a 24-year hiatus.
