Tingle’s Maps: Gerudo’s Fortress

Deep in the shifting sands of the Gerudo Desert awaits the quiet Spirit Temple, one of the last sojourns for the Hero of Time on his epic quest. Unfortunately for Link, the insular Gerudo clan is closed to visitors, especially in these uncertain times in Hyrule. To purloin the Spirit Medallion, Link will have to don the mask of a rogue and sneak past the Gerudo’s Fortress.

Built into the cliff face, the fortress serves as both a hideout for the Gerudo Thieves and a sweltering prison for trespassers. Just past the heavily guarded fortress lies a closed gate, beyond which lies the Haunted Wasteland where the Spirit Temple resides. However, before reaching the temple, Link must save some rogue carpenters who have been taken prisoner. These carpenters are paying penance for breaking a cardinal law—being men. Few outsiders know that Gerudo Valley is for girls only. To free these men, Link must become a thief himself, navigating the complex labyrinth of tight corridors within the fortress. The interior is sparsely decorated, with the occasional animal skull adorned with feathers hanging above doorways. This mission requires stealth, as getting caught results in imprisonment. Upon finding an incarcerated carpenter, Link is ambushed by a Gerudo warrior. Winning the duel will reward Link with a key to free the prisoner.

Once all five carpenters are freed, a Gerudo warrior appears before Link, commending him on his thievery skills. The warrior gives Link some parchment—the Gerudo Membership Card—which grants him permission to freely roam among the Gerudo. This card also provides access to the Gerudo Training Ground and the Horseback Archery Range, offering more opportunities for training and rewards.

With the Gerudo Fortress mini-dungeon complete, Link can use his Gerudo Membership Card to open the gate, allowing him to venture into the Haunted Wasteland. This achievement marks a crucial step in his quest. The treacherous sands of the Haunted Wasteland stand as the next formidable challenge. Equipped with new skills and the trust of the Gerudo, Link is better prepared to navigate this perilous terrain. Each victory, each alliance, and each new ability brings him closer to his ultimate goal of defeating Ganondorf and restoring peace to Hyrule.
