Just when you thought you were already saturated with enough wholesome marketing material for Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo announced that a life sized Ganondorf statue will soon stand alongside the Link statue in Japan. Yes, you read that right. An actual Tears of the Kingdom Ganondorf statue. Life sized. In Japan.
The announcement was published on Monday November 20 in Nintendo Japan’s website and soon distributed across its social media channels. According to Nintendo’s press release, the Ganondorf statue will first be revealed with Link in Fukuoka, Japan on November 23-24, and then Nagoya on December 9-10. Considering that Ganondorf’s height is claimed to be roughly 7′ 6″ according to Hyrule Historia, a life sized statue of him would undoubtedly have a towering presence. “It will be a rare opportunity to see Link’s brave appearance and Ganondorf’s dignified appearance in person. If you live nearby, please stop by,” states a rough English translation of the Nintendo Japanese press release. Zelda fans and local passerby alike can observe the amusing spectacle and take as many hilarious selfies with the infamous Gerudo King and the Hero of the Wild as they wish. No images of the actual Ganondorf statue have been currently released. It is not known if the Ganondorf statue will travel overseas to other events at the time of this writing.
For fans who are lucky enough to live in Japan, the dates and times for the viewing events are as follows:
- Fukuoka Mitsukoshi Lion Square: November 23 – 24, 2023 10:00am -8:00pm (JST) both days.
- Nagoya Station Event Space Center: December 9 – 10, 2023 10:00am -8:00pm (JST) both days.
We’ll let you know if more information about this exciting development becomes available!
