For those that don’t know, PAX Unplugged is a tabletop gaming focused event that is tailored towards fans of tabletop gaming, RPGs, miniatures, cards, and more. Since its inception in 2004, it has grown massively into a huge convention with thousands of participants. This event also includes but is not limited to freeplay style gaming, tournaments, panels, enforcers, an Expo Hall and the famed Omegathon, a massive tournament where combatants enter and one claims the title of Omegathon Champion.
This year’s PAX Unplugged dated for December 1-3, 2023, is set to have notorious voice actor Matthew Mercer as the keynote speaker for Storytime at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday, December 1, 2023. Matthew Mercer has large volume of work in both the anime and video games industry. Some of his widely acclaimed work includes the voice of Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 6, Deadshot in Injustice 2, Cole Cassidy in Overwatch, Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5, Midas and Sid in Fortnite, Ira in Kingdom Hearts, and most recently, our beloved Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
In addition to the video game roles he’s voiced, Mercer has also lent his voice to various animated films such as Trafalgar Law in One Piece Film: Red and One Piece: Stampede. Amongst his other accomplishments, Matthew has also developed and served as the Dungeon Master for the Dungeons & Dragons web series called Critical Role since 2015.
Ganondorf was one of the few voices that we missed in Breath of the Wild. Being left out of the game was a let down to some, seeing as how Princess Zelda getting voice acting became so iconic. Tears of the Kingdom reintroduced the villain and Mercer did the character justice. Some fans speculated what Ganondorf would sound like. Mercer hit a home run with the role, bringing to life a character that for many years only had about the same grunts and moans that Link himself had. Finally, we got to experience the Ganondorf we had known for many years, brought to life with Mercer’s charisma. So if you are a fan of Mercer and his work and will be attending PAX Unplugged this year, then look forward to a fun time with the voice behind many of our favorite characters.
