The 20th anniversary of The Wind Waker may be over, but that doesn’t mean the celebration ends. After much passion, courage and hard work, ZREO: Second Quest has partnered with string quartet ATLYS to create a beautiful Wind Waker themed fan album. Titled “Fair Winds and Following Seas,” it will be available for purchase in March 2023. One song from the album, “The Great Sea,” can be streamed or purchased right now as a sample on iTunes, Bandcamp, and Amazon Music.
ATLYS is a new grassroots string quartet of classically trained women musicians. Already with over 1,000 performances under their belt, the group grew during the throes of the pandemic and have mastered performing remote long-distance orchestras as a result. ATLYS is an ambassador for Shar Music and the Swiss audio teach company Schertler. They continue to perform in remote and in-person concerts today. You can learn more about them here.
ZREO: Second Quest is a revamp of the fan-favorite Zelda Reorchestrated project. Also known as ZREO, the project began in 2004 by a group of musical Zelda fans in appreciation of the beautiful music found in Zelda games. You can see what they’re up to here. Many fans have enjoyed listening to their soundtracks over the years. As they say, the rest is history.
“The Great Sea” single alone is impressive to listen to even the first time. I immensely enjoy the richness of the sound. The feeling of a grand orchestra is remarkable when you consider that it’s coming from a quartet! The song clearly stays true to the spirit of the game. I could easily put myself in a young boy’s shoes as he sets off on a high-seas adventure. It’s the perfect way to gear yourself up for the upcoming release of Tears of the Kingdom!
