Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2 are both first-year Switch games that have had a decent chunk of DLC come out following their releases. In Japan, both games will see a repackage of the physical games that come with all the DLC on October 8, according to the recent Japanese Nintendo Direct.
The assumption here is that these packages are for the standard price of the full games, effectively making the DLC free. For a company that rarely puts its own games on sale (especially its biggest hitters), that’s a good deal! The full expansion pass for Breath of the Wild is still $24.99 here in the States, which is not a small chunk of change to shave off the total price. This is very similar to “Game of the Year” editions that a lot of triple-A games in the West like to do, though rarely four years after the game releases.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether or not this content is already on the cartridge or if you still have to download all of the Expansion Pass content to your system. For many, that’s precious cargo room they would love to see offloaded to the cartridge itself. However, historically, that’s not how things like this are done.
There’s no word yet on this coming to other regions, but it feels like a clear move to get people geared up for Breath of the Wild’s sequel and Splatoon 3, both of which are scheduled to arrive next year.
