The reveal of Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass prices has garnered a mixed reception

During last week’s Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct, the anticipated expansion to the Nintendo Switch Online service was showcased in great detail.

The expansion is set to release on October 25 and will feature Animal Crossing DLC, as well as Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 titles. This, of course, includes the timeless classics Ocarina of Time (which will be available at launch) and Majora’s Mask (which will be added at a later date). Much like all the other Nintendo Switch Online classic titles, Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 games will include quality-of-life features such as suspended points and a rewind. Finally, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC, titled Happy Home Paradise, will be released on November 5 at no cost for those with the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass.

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pass service will be priced at $49.99 USD a year for an individual membership, or $79.99 USD for the family plan. There will also be an automatic discount for existing Nintendo Switch Online members that will take into account their current membership plan. These price points have been a center of controversy since the trailer was released, with many feeling that the expansion adds too little content to justify the additional $30 USD. At the time of writing, the YouTube trailer sits at 15,000 likes and 64,000 dislikes, showing the large distaste among Nintendo fans.

While the offerings of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass are impressive, the cost has impacted its reception. Check out the full trailer below to see all the expansion has to offer and decide whether or not it is worth the price to you!
