Let’s get hypothetical for a moment. Imagine the following six factors apply to you:
- You live in Europe.
- You don’t own a Switch.
- You want to own a Switch.
- The upcoming, premium-priced, Switch OLED model isn’t worth the extra investment to you.
- The far cheaper Switch Lite isn’t really your jam, either.
- The base Switch appeals to you, but the £279.99/€329.99 price tag is a bit too much.
A list like that is going to exclude a fair number of us, but I bet there are still plenty of Legend of Zelda fans (or Nintendo fans in general) for whom the above criteria apply. And, if you’re one of them, we have some good news for you. (Good news you’ve already deduced, given the article title.)
Nintendo of Europe has slashed the base Switch model’s price to £259.99/€299.99 effective immediately. While this doesn’t exactly turn the highly successful hybrid console into a matter of pocket change (unless you’re rich, in which case why did you wait?) it does soften the blow. As the good folks at Eurogamer have confirmed, a big part of this financial act of kindness is tied to the pending launch of the OLED model. The rest is based on fluctuating currency exchange rates.

Putting matters into perspective, here’s what you’ll be looking at going forward:
- Nintendo Switch Lite: £199.99
- Nintendo Switch: £259.99
- Nintendo Switch OLED: £309.99
Mum’s the word on whether or not other regions will enjoy a similar shift in pricing, but we’ll be sure to let you know if it happens!
