Have you ever seen something that simply took your breath away?
I’m sure many of you have experienced that in a variety of different ways, whether it was seeing the love of your life for the first time, nature in all of its splendor, or a piece of artwork that made you just stop, stare, and forget everything around you. For me, it was the three-and-a-half minute video game trailer that introduced us to the beautiful open world Zelda game we now know as Breath of the Wild.
On January 13, 2017, Nintendo showcased the Switch for the first time, as well as the games that would launch the same day as the console. The event concluded with the reveal of Breath of the Wild‘s presentation trailer. I don’t know which specific thing grabbed me; it could’ve been the orchestra, the voice acting, or the different locations that I would soon be able to explore. But regardless, when I saw the trailer, I knew there was something special about it.
It’s obvious to say this over five years after the fact, since Breath of the Wild is now recognized as one of the best games released in this century, as well as one of the best open world games of all time. Still, there are not a lot of trailers that just simply grab you or make you want to watch them again and again. It is one of the best video game trailers ever made (I actually have a top 5 list, but that’s a discussion for another day), and it makes me even more excited for the sequel.
Here’s hoping it’s just as breathtaking.
