It’s always a treasure to stumble across fun Easter eggs in The Legend of Zelda series, from finding Mario and friends portraits in Hyrule Castle in Ocarina of Time to seeing Majora’s Mask in Link’s home in A Link Between Worlds. Every day people are discovering new ones in both new and older titles! Here are a few astonishing discoveries that I’m certain you didn’t know until now!
Breath of the Wild: Classic Link sprite on the Great Plateau

Breath of the Wild is a massive game, so it’s no wonder some things go unseen. It seems developers snuck in this little Easter egg to pay respect to the game that started it all! While climbing one of the many cliffs on the Great Plateau, a player discovered a small sprite of Link from the original Zelda game embedded on the wall. There are so many cliffs in the game, how would any of us know where to find it? Well, as you can see from our snapshot above, so long as the Temple of Time is close by, you’re not too far away!
Breath of the Wild: Tingle time!

Just like Wolf Link, it appears Tingle can appear and fight by your side in Breath of the Wild — albeit for only a short while. Player Maddie Yaluke, who submitted this screenshot, claimed she saw bombs dropping amidst an ongoing battle while facing off against some Bokoblins. She was only able to get the one photo as when Yaluke tried to get in closer, Tingle vanished away. Some speculators on Twitter think it might have just been a glitch or mod, others think a specific sequence in-game needs to occur. Perhaps someone else will get this super rare spawn and be able to figure out the mystery!
Hyrule Warriors: Secret Sidon!

It turns out the Breath of the Wild-themed costumes for Link and Zelda weren’t the only gifts the game developers planned on giving fans of the series. After some serious searching through the game’s code, a player in Japan had uncovered Sidon as a playable character! Sadly, they were only able to get his icon to appear on the character select menu, but when they tried to play as the Zora Prince, the game would crash.
Twilight Princess HD: Return to the Temple of Time

Here’s a fun one for all you fans of Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time! Did you know that if you return to the Temple of Time once you’ve beaten the game with all the Heart Containers found, Rauru, the Sage of Light, will appear? He doesn’t say anything in particular if you attempt to speak with him, just a single set of ellipses. Still, it’s nice to know he’s still watching over his domain after all these long years.
Ocarina of Time 3D: No Lens of Truth needed

Since by now everyone and their mother knows that Sheik is actually Princess Zelda, Nintendo decided to have a little fun in their 3D remake of Ocarina of Time by hiding it right under our noses! It’s located in the Kakariko Graveyard and the tombstone it’s written on outright tells you that Sheik is not who he seems. Like the snapshot we have here, it’s understandable how so many people have missed it, likely focused on the monsters that roam around rather than the scenery.
Skyward Sword: True colors

It looks like you won’t even have to wait until Skyward Sword HD for some new content! Just like in The Wind Waker, if you start a new file over your previous one after you’ve beaten the game, you can get different costumes for the main cast of characters, including Link, Zelda, Impa (as pictured above), Fi, and Groose. I know what you’re thinking — “I’ve done that already and nothing happened.” Well, as it turns out, the player has to beat the boss rush challenge given by Lanayru without losing a single heart once. Once you have completed this task, you’ll be able to play around with the character’s color palettes! In this image here, Impa’s costume resembles that of her counterpart in Ocarina of Time.
Link’s Awakening (Switch): Evil Dragon

I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t a mod! In the Link’s Awakening remake for Nintendo Switch, it’s very possible to battle Argorok from Twilight Princess instead of the Evil Eagle. Of course, he’s just retitled as “Evil Dragon” in this game and you defeat him the same way, but it’s still really cool! Sure, Argorok’s dark and gritty art style clashes a bit with the cutsie world of Link’s Awakening, but it worked for Mario Oddysey, didn’t it? All you have to do to unlock this secret boss battle is beat Link’s Awakening 13 times, which is a reference to Twilight Princess being the 13th entry in the Zelda franchise. Could this be a hint that Twilight Princess is coming to the Switch sometime soon? We can only hope!
And there you have it! Seven brand new, very real Easter eggs that you have definitely missed! Best of luck trying to discover these secrets yourself!
