Realm of Memories: My Piece of Heart left at Zelda Universe

About a month ago, I was just minding my own business when all of a sudden, I felt the urge to go and check on my social networks, which I had decided not to use until a couple of weeks back. And what would I find but a message from none other than Zelda Universe’s own Reece Heather, inviting me to write a piece for the site’s 20th anniversary?

I had left the site a year ago due to my personal and family occupations, but ZU never left me, and to be considered again for this event made me feel like part of their community again — like I had never left.

I joined Zelda Universe in 2017 after coming across the opportunity in a tweet. I thought to myself, “Well, I like Zelda, and I like writing — why not?” A couple of days later Reece contacted me offering me to join the team and I just had to accept, and when my first article was published a few weeks later, it was one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever had.

I put a lot of effort and love into my writing, and I carefully plan every word and look for the best way to deliver my message. Seeing my name and my words on a site as huge as Zelda Universe gave me a great rush of emotion that gave me a new appreciation for writing.

It was not only that I was writing for a well-known site, but also that I got to know some fantastic people within the team, some of which joined at the same time that I did. People with which I could share my passion for everything Zelda, people that helped me grow not only as a writer but as a human being, people that I watched grow and improve, people I appreciate and who appreciate me back. They’re beautiful, talented people who are more than teammates and became my friends. Even though we may be thousands of kilometers apart, that didn’t stop us from getting close in many ways.

Now this wonderful site with this wonderful team is turning 20. That’s two decades of bringing Zelda fans together, giving them a space to share their love for one of the greatest video game series of all time, and somewhere to share their talent and ideas. It’s an ever-growing community — no, a family — of awesome people; and I couldn’t be happier for their success and I hope to see them succeed for another 20 years, and another 20 after that.

In a few years from now, when my son is old enough to hold a controller and play the by then newly released Breath of the Wild 2, I can tell him, “Mah boi, if you like Zelda (which of course you do), there is this awesome site that your dad used to write for.”

Happy anniversary to Zelda Universe; to all the team and the people who made this possible, I wish for Courage, Wisdom, and Power to you all and success in all of your projects. May the tides of the Great Sea reunite us again soon! It has been a pleasure to once again find myself on this site, and I’ll gladly do it again come the 30th! (Well, maybe before then, preferably.)

Zelda Universe is now celebrating its 20th birthday! Be sure to check out more of our memories from the site’s two-decade history.
