Realm of Memories: Community memories (part 2)

In part two of our roundup of the community’s favorite memories of Zelda Universe’s 20-year history, various members told us about their favorite articles, Twitch moments, and forum stories!

Next month will mark eight years on Zelda Universe for me, so I suppose I’m somewhere in between a newbie and a veteran! ZU was once a place that I could only describe as “home”. The forums here made me feel accepted when I otherwise felt like an outcast. I knew a lot of other gamers in real life, but the depth of my interest was something even my closest friends branded as “weird”. Here, I could scrutinize the finest details in Zelda games to my heart’s content, and somehow I was only scratching the surface in comparison to many of the other established users.

This place isn’t perfect, but its good attributes mean the world to me. I’ve made incredible friends who I will cherish for life, met like-minded peers who have restored some of my faith in humanity, and shared the most exciting and disappointing moments in gaming history with a community who have generated hype or provided much-needed moral support, depending on the occasion.

To those who have made this place an amazing and irreplaceable part of my life: I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As someone who browsed ZU since before Wind Waker was even released, it’s surreal to see that the site is not only still around, but thriving. My personal favorite ZU thing is Hylian Dan’s “Immortal Childhood“. It is the best Zelda article I’ve ever read.

We found you guys in 2019 while watching the Zelda Dungeon marathon. We were really excited when Elias came on as a guest, we followed your page, watched your marathons, and have been readers ever since. Had no idea you were 20 years this year! Thank you for all the amazing content. It has been very enjoyable.

As far as my favorite moment, I have to say that the #gotobedpayton from a couple of years ago was absolutely hilarious. I know it wasn’t Zelda related but I love the dynamic of the group and it brought us many laughs. At the time we were seriously sick and literally stayed in bed watching the whole time and that particular saga was great!

First of all, wow, 20 years. Incredible. I think I’ve been a member for 16? Second, wow again. I mean, my first roommate was someone who I met on this website. They moved from a state away and we lived together for a couple of years. Got to have the lovely gentleman Captain Cornflake as a house guest a couple of times.

This place taught me a lot about how to engage in debate, and also how not to. Some of the healthiest and best conversations I’ve had were on this forum, and vice versa; also some of the worst. I don’t think I’ve been “active” as a member for over six years, but I still try to check in every so often. It’s not the same beast as it used to be, for better or for worse. I kinda liked how crazy it was back in the day. Y’all are real chill now!

Zelda Universe is now celebrating its 20th birthday! Be sure to check out more of our memories from the site’s two-decade history.
