Players are speedrunning for Bread of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released nearly four years ago, and yet players continue finding innovative ways to challenge themselves against the community with speedruns. The latest speedrun edition is simply about “Bread%”. That’s right, just gather the ingredients and bake a loaf of bread. The high score to beat? 19:44:700, held by user Xeryph (wherein most of that time is spent on unskippable cutscenes).

French Translation: “Wheat Bread: The wheat used to make this bread comes from the Tabantha region. Its elastic crumb is rich in aromas.”

This recipe requires finding Tabantha Wheat, found in the Tabantha Frontier region by cutting grass, and Rock Salt obtained from hitting Ore Deposits.

In the video, Link escapes the beginning chamber and runs towards the nearest Bokoblin encampment, before shield-surfing over the frosty plains to gain the necessary powers to leave the initial Great Plateau armed with a pot lid and woodsman’s ax.

Link thrusts himself into the Tabantha region of the map and immediately begins whacking through grass to find that sweet Tabantha Wheat. Xeryph notes in the YouTube description that this is a random drop and can take a while as the wheat RNG is “bad.” From there, it’s as simple as dropping off the nearby cliff for salt, and then we’re baking bread!

Think you can do better? Check out the video of Xeryph and decide for yourself.
