If you are patiently waiting for the next StarTropics, keep on waiting. According to a new interview from Nikkei (translated by Nintendo Everything), Nintendo president Shuntaru Furukawa wants to focus the company on new ideas and “staple series” such as The Legend of Zelda and Mario.
Furukawa goes on to say, “We are constantly looking out for new ideas and researching what we can utilize next.”

With the massive success of their two flagship series’ games on the Switch (Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey), it’s no surprise that the company wants to hone their focus on their standbys. It’s their bread and butter! What’s interesting is that they don’t want to fall back on old IPs, but instead focus on something new. They have seen mixed success with this; for every Splatoon there is an ARMS.
Nintendo has always been one to take risks with their consoles, so it makes sense for them to take the same risk with new IP. Hopefully, this leads to some great new content.
