During time away from undergoing perilous trials or fighting ancient evils in the Legend of Zelda series, it is often filled with moments of serene tranquility in the beauty of nature. Natural scenes such as these are often the subject of traditional Japanese poetry forms like haiku. Until October 19, 2020, Zelda fans looking to try their hand at these forms can submit their creations to a new community zine project.
The project is being organized and headed by Zelda fan and Japanese culture researcher Kathryn Hemmann, who says the zine is “devoted to the beautiful environments and quiet moments of the Legend of Zelda games.” The zine is seeking poetry submissions of haiku-, tanka-, or senryu-style poems, as well as art submissions of “memorable places, landscapes or objects” to help illustrate the zine.
All skill levels are welcome, so if you’re feeling inspired, why not try to compose one yourself? More information about the specific submission requirements can be found in Kathryn’s follow-up tweets.
