One moment you are discovering what has become of the kingdom of Hyrule; innocently traveling across vast fields, through magnificent forests and up colossal mountain peaks, when all of a sudden, the sky starts to turn a sickly scarlet and specs of red suffocate your existence to the sound of ominous tones. Escape is impossible as you are consumed by the ever-growing color of suspense and the hastened composition of the Omen of the Bloody Moon.
After taking my time in exploring, I had just reached the quaint village of Kakariko when the warning embers started to appear, and the threatening music grew in speed and volume, giving off major Jaws theme song vibes. The heavens transformed into fire as the blood moon crept over the horizon and clouds darted through the sky. The world turned black as defeated enemies crept back to life and the only solace found was within Zelda’s voice filling the air with a warning.
There is something truly eerie about the sound produced when a piano is played backward, and the Omen of the Bloody Moon is a track that definitely uses it to perfection. Leaving my heart racing and my palms sweaty, the celestial body melody is right up there with the Guardian Battle theme for filling players with a burning anxiety that is hard to shake off.
