Nintendo tested Breath of the Wild with various Japanese landmarks

Learning the history of a video game’s development is always interesting. Most of the time, a game looks completely different early on compared to the final product, and the Zelda series has seen its fair share of new revelations when it comes to the development process. Nintendo showcased an early build of Breath of the Wild at their CEDEC 2017 presentation.

The footage from this event was previously unavailable for public viewing, but Twitter user @pixelpar recently shared some details from the demo footage. In the demo, Link was placed in various locations in Japan.

The locale in the tweet above is Himeji Castle in Himeji, Japan. From what has been shown here, it is likely that Nintendo used various famous landmarks from across the country to test the game’s mechanics. Furthermore, another tweet from @RazorOfArtorias takes a look at the cut skydiving mechanic which, from what we can see, resembles a similar feature from Skyward Sword.

Seeing all of these revelations is honestly quite interesting. Nintendo designed Breath of the Wild with the utmost care, and it makes sense why they were also ambitious during early prototypes. Although it is unlikely that we’ll see any video evidence of any of this, the screenshots demonstrate some nifty little background details surrounding the games development.
