On this day, May 9th, 2020, we at Zelda Universe honor the memory of lost socks. Whether it be lost in the laundry, forever rolled up under the bed, or eaten by the dog, it’s sad when we lose a matching set of socks, especially if you’re like me and have an abundance of specially themed socks. However, if you still have one out of two socks, all is not lost. You can still wear your favorite sock, just pair it with another for a bit of mix-matched fun! That’s why today on this “Lost Sock Memorial Day,” I’m going to show you the art of making some fun, Zelda-themed match-ups!
Good Vs. Evil
Every story has its hero and villain, so here we have both in sock form. On one side we have the evil Ganon and on the other we have Link and Zelda. These opposites may not attract in terms of their goals, but they certainly make for an attractive pair of socks.
Same game
Many of the socks I’ve purchased have come in bundles all representing a singular game. Here I have a Breath of the Wild theme going on. To take it a step further, I made sure you know which game this is all from by placing a sock with the logo on it.
Subtle Similarities
Even if the socks don’t match exactly, find some key elements that your socks have in common. Are they the same length? Check! Same color scheme? Even better! And to top it all off, they’ve both got a rad Zelda theme to tie everything together.
From generation to generation
We’re Zelda fans, we know how to make timelines, and we can certainly do that with our wardrobe as well! In this example, I used a representative from the first game and the latest game (to date) of the series. However, because of Zelda’s unique split timeline, you could have a lot of fun with this one.
Gear up!
It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this! Your favorite gear from the Legend of Zelda! Link doesn’t only carry one weapon, after all.
Choose your character!
Got a favorite character? Pick two of your favorites with that character and pair them up! Now they’ll have to recognize you as their number one fan…
Game on!
Make clever references only gamers would know. Any Zelda fan could clearly see that I have Link with his health bar ready to take on the world! Meanwhile, my mom thinks I just matched one black sock with another — which while valid proves that not everyone might get these references.
Nintendo World
Why stop at just Zelda? Make your socks a Smash Bros tourney and pair up your favorite Nintendo representatives! To make this even more fun, do the announcer voice as you put on your socks.
