Breath of the Wild meets Ocarina of Time in new trailer mashup

Breath of the Wild and Ocarina of Time are renowned in the Zelda series, and in gaming in general, for their own reasons. Ocarina of Time emerged on the Nintendo 64 with a timeless narrative and a revolutionary breakthrough into the third dimension for the Zelda franchise. Breath of the Wild, meanwhile, proved once again that Nintendo was ready to innovate, giving players one of the best open-world gaming experiences in recent years.

Depending on who you ask, you shouldn’t be surprised to hear someone say that either game is their favorite — or the best, period — in the entire Zelda series. YouTuber Great-Bit Arcade appears to be one of those people, and he showed his appreciation for these gaming icons by melding the audio of Breath of the Wild’s 2017 Nintendo Switch Presentation trailer with footage from Ocarina of Time. The result, as you can see, is quite magnificent.

The mashup features a collection of clever replacements for the classic shots from Breath of the Wild’s trailer (a trailer that remains much loved for its dramatic flair and poignancy). Some of my favorite swaps were the replacement of Korok Forest with the Temple of Time (both revealing the resting place of the Master Sword), the rising of Ganondorf’s tower replacing the Malice-infested Hyrule Castle, and the fitting substitution of Child Link’s first time drawing the Master Sword for Link’s devastating final stand.

It’s an incredibly creative and well-cut video, and it shows that, despite being on a different scale, Ocarina of Time can be just as grand as Breath of the Wild, with the right atmosphere.
