A group of developers named Harbour Masters is creating a native PC port of the classic Nintendo 64 title Ocarina of Time, and they expect to have it out as early as next month.
According to an interview with VGC, the project began work as soon as last December, right after the reversed engineered code of Ocarina of Time was finished. Since then, the team has been working away at making sure that the game runs as smoothly as possible. This includes out-of-the-box widescreen support and many other potential things to make the game feel more modern. The developers currently have a road map for the game to reach 60 fps as well, though do not know when this setting will be available. Altogether, the developers believe that the game is about 90% complete.

The other big takeaway from the interview with VGC was the amount of customization that the PC port will allow, as PC players will be able to add texture packs and mod the game to their liking. With such a classic game, there is sure to be any number of hilarious mods that will come out of this project. Knowing what Zelda fans did to Breath of the Wild, these mods will range from comically dumb like Mario fighting Bowser in Hyrule to large story expansions like Second Wind.
The best part about it all is how the project is perfectly legal as the team has not used any of Nintendo’s copyrighted codes or assets. Hopefully, this fact will make the project “Nintendo Ninja” proof and everyone gets to enjoy the hard work of all the devs.
Make sure to check out the full interview for more information on the game and the team’s process.
