Yuga’s Art Gallery: Prinny of the Wild

Anyone who knows me well enough knows that one of my favorite game series is Disgaea. Obviously, The Legend of Zelda is a close second, or an equivalent. It’s to the point, however, that my entire online existence has strongly correlated to Disgaea. “LaharlKun” was even one of the first usernames. Back in 2004, it was a challenge to find anyone that knew about Disgaea, so I often had to explain to people what the game was and where my username came from.

Nowadays, most gamers have at least heard of the series, and one could argue that it’s no longer considered obscure. But for those still uninitiated, Disgaea is a tactical RPG, or TRPG for short. You move your units around on a grid-like map and defeat foes until one side has no units remaining. This is, of course, an extremely bare description, as the game is known for the unbelievable amount of levels you can gain (up to 9,999, in fact!) as well as its ridiculous humor and over-the-top characters. It’s also entirely possible that the spelling of “dood” came from this game, as that’s what a Prinny says at the end of every sentence, dood!

With all that said, a friend of mine showed me some fan art about, of all things, a crossover between Breath of the Wild and Disgaea. DeviantArt and Twitter user ayyk92 shows us a comedic piece of art, wherein our hero, Prinny Link, is noticeably stressed and anxious — as he should be, what with a menacing Lynel aiming a bow at him from behind! That bow also seems to have a Bomb Arrow at the ready, which is already dangerous enough, but if you know anything about a Prinny, then you likely know that they explode when thrown.

Since I’ve started writing for this site, the last thing I ever expected to encounter was a crossover between my two favorite series, Zelda and Disgaea. I actually decided to change my username online to “PrinnyOfTime,” as it’s both easy to pronounce and remember, as well as a representation of the two series that changed my life in unexpected ways. I love seeing Zelda fan art. I love seeing Disgaea fan art. But thanks to ayyk92, I’ve seen those things combined into a single picture and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a great thing, dood!
