The Zelda series seems to be heading in a really refreshing direction in terms of its female protagonists. We got both Zelda and Cadence as playable characters in Cadence of Hyrule, and speculation is already wildly circulating about whether Zelda will be playable in the Breath of the Wild sequel. Regardless of whether she is or not, it looks like she may at least be more actively involved in the game and leaving the damsel in distress role to past princesses.
But let’s put that to bed for now. Instead, let’s celebrate the fact that we got to actually play not just one, but two female heroes in Cadence of Hyrule. What better way to do so than to look at some beautiful fan art sharing the joy for these two heroines of Hyrule?
Tumblr artist StupJam has clearly been feeling the love too, as they drew this adorable piece of the duo back in March even before the game had launched. You can tell they were as hyped as many of us were to lead these ladies on their quest to save Hyrule. I was thrilled to see such a lovely piece, because there’s sadly not a lot of Cadence of Hyrule fan art out there at the moment. Get on it, artists!

I absolutely love StupJam’s style — it’s so clean and minimalist. The simple purple and pink really suit their respective ladies, and their poses are so cute. Hand in hand ready to save Hyrule, Cadence is confidently holding her staple shovel while Zelda pops in a headphone to prepare for those bopping beats. I also love both of their expressions. Cadence’s well-earned confidence and Zelda’s upbeat smile tell us that they’re ready to go. Just turn up the tempo and say when.
