When you think of floral art, tabletop arrangements or small gardens may come to mind. But Burela, Spain takes flowers to the next level each year by creating massive “carpets” of flowers. The works range in their sources of inspiration, and this year some familiar video game icons took form under the artists’ hands.
From carnations to cut leaves, flora of all types were used to create Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Pikachu, and Sonic as part of the enormous display. They stood as testaments to the artists’ skills and patience in laying each flower down just right, much like the domino artists who are admired for their meticulous craft. And while flowers aren’t as sensitive to vibrations as upright dominoes, it’s probably a good idea not to step on these works.
