I play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. You probably play, too. Your friends play, and likely their friends. You know who else enjoys some Smash in their free time? The creator of the game itself: Masahiro Sakurai.

In a recent interview for Famitsu, Sakurai states that the latest entry in the fighting game franchise still keeps its developers busy during lunch: “I’ve been playing Smash Bros. on-and-off too. Of course, I was able to fiddle around with it here and there during development, and I still play it with the rest of the staff during our lunch breaks.”

However, that is not enough for the veteran developer. “I’m still able to enjoy it as it is on my own Switch back at home,” he says. “I spend my days sending my spirits out to scour for resources, sending them to training Dojos, and leveling up any Legend class spirits I have.”

“In the long run, I plan to play until I’ve collected every spirit; other games take priority, though, so I’m making my way through it all at a leisurely pace,” he adds, showing us that Sakurai is as dedicated to his inner completionist as he is when creating some of the best games Nintendo has to offer.
