I’m going to be honest: When the WiiU came out, I wasn’t impressed. Combine that with not having a source of income at the time, and I never actually ended up owning one. When Hyrule Warriors was announced, however, I immediately regretted not saving up any excess financial aid I had in college for it. I’ve loved the Warriors gameplay since I played Dynasty Warriors 4 all that time ago on my PS2, and this game looked like a masterpiece and dream come true.

I was fortunate enough to get to play Hyrule Warriors multiplayer with my friend who owned it though, and the game was an absolute joy and everything I could have ever wanted out of a Warriors-style game. I didn’t even know that I wanted a Zelda game in this style, but it worked so incredibly well in my opinion that I constantly craved more and more. It wouldn’t be until the recently released Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition that I’d truly get to sink my teeth into it.

Despite having a plethora of characters and favorites I’ve come to love over many years as a Zelda fan, little did I know that one character was going to challenge Young Link or Medli as my favorite character: Linkle.

The internet also seemed to really like Linkle as well, as there’s a lot of fan art of her and it couldn’t make me happier. Here’s a great piece by bellhenge which is simply titled “I’m Linkle!” I really love the painted style and the usage of green for the background here to accent how she’s also from a small forest village like Link as well as her clothes. I like the pose as well since Linkle’s compass is very precious to her and bringing it to the forefront helps to show her personality a lot more. The piece also exudes a softness to it that really makes the picture feel “warm” and makes it very easy to look at. I could almost see Linkle as a doll in this style as well.

The more I play Hyrule Warriors the more I appreciate Linkle as a character. She’s very straightforward, honest, and aims to be the hero she knows she is. I’m very glad many artists love her as well because seeing art like this one from bellhenge makes me very happy, and any and all Linkle fanart is perfect in my book! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to take out my map and try to find my way to Hyrule Castle but comically miss the obvious sign that points me to where I need to go and run in the wrong direction.

You can find more of bellhenge’s work on their Tumblr and their DeviantArt!
