It was only last month that we learned about the new Legend of Zelda art book coming to Japan. It at once had fans excited for another official look at the history of The Legend of Zelda, but at the time there was no word of it being localized.
Today, Dark Horse Comics — the publisher behind Hyrule Historia’s localization — retweeted a Crave Online article announcing that they are bringing the new art book to the West under the title The Legend of Zelda: Arts & Artifacts. The first thing you’ll likely notice about the localized art book is its cover: a lovely dark red that makes it a wonderful companion book to the green Hyrule Historia.
As we previously reported, Arts & Artifacts will feature concept and promotional art spanning the series, from its NES roots up to modern times. In addition, it’s now been confirmed that the art book will give a preview of the new game’s art, Breath of the Wild. Whether that will be new art or not is not yet known, but perhaps we’ll see some new pieces before the game comes out. Even that isn’t everything included! Some of the art will be rare pieces never published before in book form, and there will be exclusive interviews with the creative team behind The Legend of Zelda.
Arts & Artifacts will be out just in time for Breath of the Wild, too. It’s currently set to release on February 21, 2017 for $39.99. You can pre-order it on Amazon and secure your copy. One thing to note is that there is currently no limited edition of the book, so you may or may not want to wait around to find out if there will be one.
According to Nintendo’s and Dark Horse Comics’s joint announcement, Arts & Artifacts is the next book in a “new line” of Legend of Zelda books. What would you like a possible third book to feature, and what color would you want it to be? Share your ideas with us!
