It’s a secret to everybody: Zelda Easter egg hidden in Splatoon

Mario and Zelda games have been known to throw in the occasional Easter egg. Chain Chomps from Mario can be found in Link’s Awakening, and the Warp Whistle from Super Mario Bros. 3 plays the same melody as Link’s Recorder in the original Legend of Zelda.

The developers of Splatoon, Nintendo’s colorful new exclusive, got in on the Easter egg hunt, as pointed out by the folks at GameXplain. On a wall in Urchin Underpass, you’ll find an 8-bit picture of an Octorok from the original Legend of Zelda. Maybe the Octorok is the mascot for the Octarians of Octo Valley. Similarly, there is also an 8-bit Blooper, a squid-like baddie from Super Mario Bros. I’m starting to see a pattern here. Splatoon comes out on May 29 — be sure to stay on the lookout for hidden Zelda references!
