Hyrule Warriors: Fan feedback influenced playable Ghirahim/Zant and addition of Cuccos

The latest trailers for Hyrule Warriors showed off Ghirahim and Zant as playable characters, presenting the exciting premise of playing as the villains in a Zelda game. Apparently, this wasn’t always going to be the case, according to a Game Informer interview with producer Yosuke Hayashi.

According to Nintendo Everything, the development team “originally thought of them strictly as enemy characters”, but they were made playable “in response to people who wanted to try playing as them”. The appearance of Cuccos in the game was also made possible thanks to the support of the fanbase. Hayashi added, “They will appear during battle, and you’ll have to play the game for yourself to see what will happen.”

I was initially concerned that we wouldn’t get to play as the eccentric evildoers, but fortunately this appears to be another triumph for Zelda fans!
