Famitsu Magazine has put out a list of Japan’s 20 most wanted games (as of May 16), and two Zelda games made it: Skyward Sword and OOT3D! They placed 19th and 9th respectively, and on a list of 20 games out of the hundreds rumored and confirmed, that’s a pretty good ranking.

3. Dragon Quest X (Wii)
4. Yakuza: Of the End (PS3)
5. Fotokano: Picture Girlfriend (PSP)
6. Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)
7. Mario Kart 3D (3DS)
8. Metal Gear Solid: Rising (PS3)
9. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3DS)
10. Ragnarok: Princess of Light and Dark (PSP)
11. Tales of the Abyss (3DS)

    This must be rectified! XD

    • Keith

      This x 1000

  • why is OOT3D higher than skyward sword? that doesn't make any sense!

    • Sanity's_Theif

Maybe because more people are excited for OOT 3D than Skyward Sword?

I mean, I've asked a lot of people I know who play games, most are not really interested in it. They praise OOT and TP.

      • Zombeh

More people are excited for OoT because it's closer to its release.

    • cloverplayer

maybe cause some people think Skyward Sword has a lame art style, me not included

      • cresent soul

unfortunately, that is a considerable factor. But don't people realize that OoT3D, in all its "meant to look" glory, looks very similar to what SS looks right now??? This is where someone has to make an article to get the haters to think right.

      • Sanity's_Theif

"maybe cause some people think Skyward Sword has a lame art style, me not included "

This is a factor, one of my friends says it just looks like… poop, the other says it looks like N64 OOT while there is an update to OOT on the 3DS which looks 100X better so it's just a big mind**** to him

Me personally, I wouldn't have a problem with SS's art if it actually looked like the concept art, with Street Fighter 4 styled painting swipes on sword attacks

I mean look at this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_–qySDj-67Q/TBscRFu8UwI

And then look at this: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/gallery/images/6838/

It just doesn't match, I would love the way SS looked if it looked like the concept art(1st picture) with painting swipes for the sword, but unfortunately it seems Nintendo took the lazy route so that's what I have a problem with

    • Primus

to reliterate what everyone is saying, i can look forward to playing Oot in a near future.

However, Skyward Sword is in a distant future, and i still don't know how the game is going to be like after two trailers. SS feels more like a wild card so far to over-anticipate over.

  • KingDodongo1

Not too shabby, but I really think they should be higher. I mean, c'mon. You really want to play another Animal Crossing more than a new Zelda game?

    • Yeah, as much as I like animal crossing, I'm WAY more excited for Skyward Sword.

      • cresent soul

japanese love crossing their chickens across the road, so yeah.

  • starwebs1

List of games from that list that I am excited for, in order:

    5. The Last Guardian (PS3)
    4. Animal Crossing 3D (3DS)
    3. Mario Kart 3D (3DS)
    2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)
    1. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)

OoT3D and SS are pretty close, but in the end, SS wins. I mean, it's a whole new game!

    • cresent soul

do know that last guardian as the potential to have the most dull gameplay in thew world. Looks yummy, may not taste yummy. Just saying. Not smart to hype on something without grounding.

      • starwebs1

Dude, it's made by Team ICO. Shadow of the Colossus was one of the best games I've ever played, so I'm excited for Last Guardian.

        • cresent soul

yeah, I know. But just saying person A is doing some project isn't enough. It could be just a rehash of some older concepts, that's not a crazy thing to happen. I'm just saying that people are hyping up based on little info. Too much expectations can lead to dissapointed, just be wary of that.

  • David

Speaking as a biased Zelda fan, Skyward Sword should be number one, and Ocarina of Time 3D should be number two.

  • KingOfHeart

Skyward Sword had a weak trailer, not much surprise.

    • cresent soul

I thought the trailer was a great trailer. It didn't have any "wow" moments, but it was consistently top quality for me. Most other game trialers use cinematics and story and all that fluff to make you "think" it's gonna be "epic" or "grand". When I saw SS, even though it didn't use anything incredibly new, it did show me that this game is all about core gameplay and substance. It showed many things in a very very short time and it was very honest in that. No tricks, no illusions. Gameplay at its best. Me knowing that makes me feel like SS really is made with gameplay at top priority. But hey, Nintendo has always done that right 😛

The point is that reviewing trailers isn't an accurate way to reivew a game. Sure, a trailer is to wow you. But I don't want SS in the end to be a game with wow momemnts sprinkled around. I want it to be gold through and through and just be a true piece of meat to chew on. I'm sure most fans want that in a game.

But yeah, I agree that a trailer that lacks those trailer tricks (which you label "weak" but that's your opinion I guess) won't get the hype going. But, really, hype is the last thing nintnendo wants right now. Hype this early is nothing but detriment. And espeically not good with OoT3D about to come out. So it's actually a great thing that hype is low right now for SS, cause I'm sure it'll spike up like crazy come e3 (or a bit after right before SS release).

    • ganonking

They will probably bring out a wow trailer at E3 this year, I hope it will be as good as TP's trailer back in 2004

      • cresent soul

TP's trailer in 2004 was misleading and had no substance. SS's GDC trailer already kicks it's arse purely because it showed "stuff". E3 2004 very very overrated. It was boosted by WW hate.

  • freedom410

It's not a good sign that SS is ranked so low on the list. The game sadly doesn't seem to be generating much enthusiasm. Even on this website reactions have been at best mixed. I hope this doesn't turn into another "Metroid: Other M", or a Nintendo franchise game that turns out to be a dud.

    • creasent soul

don't you know Nintendo's new strategy with games. They don't try to (stupidly) blow the lid of the same thing 10 times over before release like before. Look at TP, that game was so over-hyped and over-spoiled that fans knew like 30% of the game before playing it. Furthermore, the hype was held so long that it died down right before release which is the time when hype is most needed.

Trust me, Nintendo aren't dumb. They know how to make money and keep fans happy at the same time. If you don't believe me, look at ST or Mario Galaxy 2 or even Other M itself. All those games were released with little revealed prior (info only came out a bit before release).

Anyway, it would be the dumbest buisness move ever to just shoot out SS news constantly when you're trying to market OoT3D at the same time. If you haven't noticed, we've been getting all this OoT3D stuff of late. Why? because it's nearly out.

So instead of worrying, have a bit of faith. There's not much in the past recent activities in Nitnendo to indicate that they are doing something dumb here. Once OoT3D is out, we'll have a nice pretty new trailer or even a demo and then it'll be a few months and we'd be crying joy for the next coming of awesomeness. Doesn't that sound great???

  • DoctorYou

Anybody else been hoping for Final Fantasy Versus XIII for as long as I have?! @_@

As for Skyward Sword, I expect that as soon as OoT is out and the initial buying period has settled down, Nintendo will majorly turn its media attention to Skyward Sword, hyping it up for a big release a few months later. At least, I think that's what they need to do!

    • Kitakee

I preordered Versus 3 years ago … 🙂 And you're right, Nintendo will probably give SS more hype once the Ocarina frenzy has settled. Question is, if the frenzy goes on for a long time, will they postpone the release of SS just to make as much moolah as possible out of Ocarina? I hope not. I have faith in Nintendo. They haven't turned into the same kind of money greedy bastards as Square. Yet.

      • avert_from_the_norm

No, they have a set release for fall of this year. their doing it early summer so the frenzy has the whole summer to work through, but at the same time, they must realize that there is a huge group of core gamers who are all ready and waiting for skyward sword. To postpone it would mean pulling a twilight princess, in one way or more. Besides, we don't have a confirmed release except for sometime early-late fall for skyward. If we get lucky they release it in september, but knowing how nintendo works, they are going to go with the typical christmas release so hype and buying intent is at it's peak to get the best sales.

  • This is all crap. I've never even specifically heard of any of those games except Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and the two Zeldas. Skyward Sword and OoT 3D should be way higher up on the list than that. I'm way looking forward to OoT and haven't really been thinking about MK at all. And what idiot decided that Animal Crossing is better than Skyward Sword?!

    • cresent soul

      well, they are japanese

    • avert_from_the_norm

it's not about the culture, or anything but who they specifically surveyed, and what if they had a specific list of games and just did random people. most likely this was a 100 or 1000 person random survey, meaning that you might have gotten your fair share of non-gamers to take it, or you could've just had a lot of interest and investement in the other games listed. you guys shouldn't put too much stock in this.

The other possibility is that the staff at the magazine were the ones who took part in this, and they're not really big zelda fans. Unless you can find out how they decided on this list, it's useless to complain.

    • DoctorYou

@TorchPhantom and cresent soul: Final Fantasy and Metal Gear are both HUGE franchises, and not just in Japan (although I agree with you: while I love Mario Kart, I never really anticipate a release. It's just, "Oh, Mario Kart's out, I should buy it). 😉

  • Johaun348

a little off topic, but I think there should be a section (like all the other zelda games on this site) for OoT3d. not sure why it is not. its hard to find all the good screenshots except for the most receant ones

  • cresent soul

It's good that SS isn't at the top. Why? Well if SS is at the top of the wanted list this early, then the hype will be too high too early and that'll hurt later. The best enjoyment of a game comes when the hype rises just before the release of the game, any hype for that is just unnecessarily raising expectations.

Nintendo is delibrately keeping the low-down on this game. I like this strategy.

Watch, when SS is about to release it'll be on top of those charts.

  • ganonking

Skyward sword is 4th on the american pre order chart and all the games above it have release dates I don't have a clue why japan would put skyward sword and ocarina of time so low on their list! When SS gets a release date It had better top those charts.

    • cresent soul

japanese are smart and don't self-hype games months before release. It's us who hype up anything too much until we are dead before release. In the end, it's the japanese who'll get the best enjoyment out of SS simply because they are turning a blind eye to it now.

      Less hype is better, simple!

  • Cereal

  • Don't be so worried about Skyward Sword! The game only has 2 trailers and no release date. Once the release becomes close, Nintendo's going to hype it like OoT 3D. Also, it's number 5 on the preorder chart in North America.

    • cresent soul

For a game that has had 1 proper trailer (which is pretty short) and a "not in the game" demo, SS has considerably good high. And what's so great about this is that it beats all those other hypier games which have resorted to exposing like 80% of their content to get people screaming whereas we know like, I don't know, 1% (probably less) of the game now.

  • Chris Barnett

The game list is what is the most wanted in Japan, not in America where I am… Besides, who cares, all the games listed are great and if there are games you like or dislike that is fine, personal preference I suppose!

  • do u like waffles?

okay, this list isn't right. OoT and SS should be at the top!!!!!!

  • 030

what!?!?! SS should be WAY higher!!! if not, first!!!

  • GorCoronSumo

Play Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles if you want the same ZING as a piece of heart for Link.

  • AnRandomLink

This list was made by the people who made final fantisy typo.

  • dingdong777

    brb youtube.

  • cresent soul

and people forget that the game has only one proper trailer and like 1% exposure. And it's months away from release anyway without an official release date. To me that's crazy good. 🙂

  • Scrivs

    this cant be true

  • Lancelot-sama!

Hey, I'm excited for about 80% of the games on the list! (the others I don't know much about) Everyone is hyped about these games, and they all look like great games. Skyward Sword & Ocarina of Time 3D don't have to be at the top for me to buy them. I'd buy them regardless of whether they made the list or not.

  • gerald4

    And Tales is Namco Bandai.
