You guys remember that Zelda reference from Fable III?  Well, we’ve found another one, and it’s even more direct.  Beluga Billy warns Mickey, “It’s dangerous to go alone!  Take this.” as he hands Mickey some sort of watch item drawn on paper.  Beluga, an old man handing the hero an item, quoting a line from The Legend of Zelda? This is definitely done on purpose.

The reference in picture form.

This, of course, is almost expected from the game’s director, Warren Spector, who is an admitted Zelda fan and even made a public statement that A Link to the Past is his favorite game of all time.  The game is set in a dilapidated land of all things Disney, so there’s bound to be more references to things Disney and more.  Let us know what you find in the comments!

Just goes to show that most games aspire to be as great as Zelda ^^~

  • ILiekZelda

Just like I said at Zelda Dungeon, WHAT SAM HILLS DOES A FLIPPING PIECE OF PAPER WITH A CLOCK DRAWN ON IT DO?! No help whatsoever….. Unless someone wants to buy it? O.o

    • I bet there's some sort of trading sequence, and that it's part of it. Epic Mickey is supposed to be about helping or hurting people, and I bet if someone needs something that someone else has, you have to get something to trade for that thing, but to get that thing…(you know where I'm going) 😛

  • I love it that Warren Spector favors Zelda, and that he's not afraid to show it in public.

  • Headphoneguy

Another reason to buy Epic Mickey!

Move aside, Mario. Zelda's stealing your spotlight! 😀 Haha this is awesome.

  • Niiiiiiice

  • QueenxLink

Aw cool 🙂 Of course, I'm gonna end up buying this game…

  • Rohan

I really wish they spent a little more time polishing this game. I really want to buy it, but from what I've heard they controls and camera are a bit wonky (which is really the only thing stopping me from buying at this point).

  • mah boi

So, if this is supposed to mimic the old man who gives the sword, that means this guy is a crazy old man???

  • bo jordan

    that's crazy

  • Icy

Awesome! =D I am not getting the game any time soon. Probably never, but glad to see a Zelda reference wherever possible!

i have epic micky and it is actually a good and the controls are the same as any new game you buy, once you get used to them you really start getting into the game, and also another zelda reference that there is in Epic Micky is when you open a "big chest" there's a dramatic cut scene with light coming out of the chest but he doesn't hold it above his head while it slowly rotates like our beloved link does. And also, when i got up to the part where the pirate gives the watch drawing that slows down time, as soon as it clicked in my head that was a zelda quote i gave an internal fanboy squeal (with other people in the room that would of been embarrassing).

  • Taha_Soysal

It's nice to see Zelda memes still being embedded in different places.

  • That item is a "sketch". It's purpose is to allow Mickey to draw a clock, that slows time for a while.

  • Kitsuneki22

Ahahaha, I thought you'd find this reference eventually, ZU! I lol'd and screencapped it when I found that- if no one had pointed it out, I would have.
