Digging for references.

For those keeping up with the recently released Fable III, we did a story on how to dress your Fable character up as Link for Halloween. Little did we know that Link was already actually in the game. Or at least his tombstone.

Just recently discovered, Tim from Destroyed Controller posted a vid showing the nondescript tombstone with the famous quote from the original The Legend of Zelda. Practicing in the illegal act of grave-digging reveals a perfectly apt prize.

    Lol. Nintendo should sue.

    • Headphoneguy

Unless they copyrighted that line, it would be kinda hard for nintendo to sue them.

    • bradley

Why. For paying homage to their game?

      • dejavu

Perhaps we should pay homage to you instead?

        • bradley

LOL. I don't care if you keep trolling me just because I called you out for saying 'first' one time. You are weird to have sick obsessions like this.

  • Cody Gee

I like it when other games fit in some Zelda Easter Egg's 🙂

  • Gerudude

Geesus…it's been like 20yrs or so since I played the 1st Zelda. If he hadn't mentioned it, I would'nt have known.

  • HylianFox

Is it bad that I thought the name 'Mourningwood' was more interesting?

    • random

lol i know right, when i first heard the name i laughed my ass off. I think nintendo was just having a dirty minded day when they came up with that name, lol.

      • Violet

        Nintendo did not make Fable.

  • Headphoneguy

I've never played Fable but that was cool. And for those who didn't know, there are some Zelda references in World of warcraft too.

    • mockingbird8

did you know that in warcraft two on the temple of the damned there was a triforce carved in the stone

      • Joko tree

This proves that the Zelda games are legends.

    • TnzSki

I did the whole "Linken" quest chain so i could get "Linken's Boomerang" and "Linken's Sword of Mastery", along with the photo lol.

  • Joko tree

Even in death Old man still helps you through you're quest.

  • "Practicing the illegal act of gravedigging reveals a perfectly apt prize." And yet when we move gravestones in Zelda games we're doing sort of the same, but without the shovel. 🙂

This is a very humorous find. Initially, I figured the tombstone would say "It's a secret to everybody," but the actual quote still fits the situation. Great reference.

The link to "A Defense of Skyward Sword in Three Examples" doesn't work.

    • Joko tree

It does now, go check it out.

  • ILiekZelda

Lol I was thinking more of a character IN the graveyard that looks Dampe, like the gravekeeper. But we all knew that the Old Man was going to die soon sadly…….

  • Aethelbert

What's with the link in the article above. The one that says "A Defense of Skyward Sword in Three Examples"

  • dave

i dont know anything about this game, but did anybody notice mourningwood? lol

Aw, I remember when I used to play the first Fable…

  • HeavyWeaponsFan

Curse you, Old Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaann!!!! First you gave me cryptic clues, made me pay 50 rupees for your door, and now you have the nerve to give a toy sword in a non-Zelda game.

Even in death, you are the bane of my existence!

  • sabby64

    This made me smile 🙂

  • bob

I'm pretty sure in the final fantasy for the GBA, there's a gravestone that says here lies link. It's in elfheim as I recall. This is funny, I think I'm gonna buy this just to see that.

    • onilink

      That's correct.

  • nintend06

I discovered this in-game and posted about it in Nayru last week. xD

  • Darth Goron

ha… mourningwood… like the reference though

  • bradley

    Lolwut??? Mourningwood? XD

    • dejavu

      Congratulations. Now, GTFO!

  • Manga ninja

    It is so cool XD

  • Violet

Yes, yes, Mourningwood is mildly funny if you're a thirteen year old. But imagine seeing it for the fiftieth time. The joke is going to wear a little thin.

    • morning wood

      Lol oldfag be mad

  • Barnibus

    Violet are smart.
