If you haven’t heard yet, it looks like our valiant efforts have paid off – Chuggaaconroy is back on YouTube, unsuspended, with all of his videos returned. To clarify his situation, and make his first (and last) statement on the matter, he’s put up a Black Screen Update video.
How did this happen? Chuggaa went about his predicament the right way; by submitting counter-claims to the vandals that took down his account with false claims, he was able to negate the effects of their claims. YouTube requires a legal response to counter-claims within 14 days. If the party that made the original claim does not respond, the claims are invalidated and YouTube begins investigating the cause of the false claims. More likely than not, the IP addresses of the vandals have been added to a watch list, or suspended from YouTube.
Luckily, Chuggaa utilized his downtime to improve upon some of his already-existing Let’s Play guides, and YouTube is taking action to revise their claims system – slow action (very slow action), but action nonetheless.
More likely than not, the people who took down Chuggaa, NintendoCapriSun and more are still out there, doing the same thing to other accounts. Until the time comes when YouTube truly revises it’s DMCA claim system, we urge everyone to do their part to spread the word about these issues when they arise. If one of your favorite YouTubers gets suspended for false claims, get YouTube’s attention!
But for now, we’re glad that Chuggaaconroy is back – and that others who have been suspended are back or in the process of having their accounts reactivated.
