Everything you need to know about Age of Calamity Wave 2 DLC: Guardian of Remembrance

by on October 30, 2021

The second wave of DLC content for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has now released, as of October 29, 2021. There’s a lot of additional content added immediately if you purchased the Expansion Pass for the game. You must have the latest update (13.0) of the base game, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, before accessing the new content. The following will contain major content spoilers, so read at your own risk. This includes details of the last available character & story details.

The latest DLC includes the following new content:

  • Purah & Robbie as playable characters (as a duo) + 1 new playable character
  • 8 new story level missions
  • New missions & side quests
  • Additional combat actions for playable characters (unlocked through side quests)
  • New variant weapons for certain characters
  • New story focused cut scenes

How to unlock Purah and Robbie

To unlock Purah & Robbie in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, all you have to do is complete all eight “EX” story levels. After you complete the level “EX Guardian of Remembrance,” Purah & Robbie will be unlocked as playable characters.

All New Story Levels

  • EX To Zelda’s Side
  • EX Battle of Goponga Village
  • EX Battle for Kakariko Village
  • EX Searching Hyrule Forest
  • EX Liberate the Ancient Lab
  • EX The Princess and the King
  • EX The Yiga Clan’s Retreat
  • EX Guardian of Remembrance

How to unlock the last playable character

While unlocking Purah & Robbie required finishing every new story level, unlocking the last character has a specific condition that must be met.

When playing the new levels, you also be greeted with a checklist of objectives called “Memory Quests.” To unlock the last character, complete the level “EX The Yiga Clan’s Retreat” while achieving the third listed memory quest “Don’t let any ally flee.”

Once you reach the end of the level, facing the Blight Ganons, Sooga will become playable in the level. After the mission is complete, a cut scene will play followed by unlocking Sooga as the last DLC character in Wave 2.

How to complete all the Memory Quests

In addition to the new story stages, there are new objectives listed as “Memory Quests.” Each of the 8 new stages have 3 missions each, bringing the total to 24 memory quests to complete. When starting a EX level for the first time, not every mission will be revealed to you. They can still be achieved and unlocked in your first playthrough, as listed below.

EX To Zelda’s Side

The yellow star marks the location of a hidden monster.

Memory Quests

  • Find and defeat the hidden monster.
  • Obtain 3 Hydromelons.
  • Defeat Harbinger Ganon.

The hidden monster can be found near the northern most edge of the mission map. Defeat this monster to complete the first memory quest.

There are 3 Hydromelons hidden away in crates scattered across the map. Go to the marked places on the map above to find a Hydromelon to complete the second memory quest.

Defeat Harbinger Ganon, who is located at the glowing mark on the map above. This will complete both the stage’s mission & the third memory quest.

EX Battle of Goponga Village

The blue circle on the map shows where you can defeat monsters while in the water, using Cryonis.

Memory Quests

  • Defeat 100 or more enemies with ice attacks.
  • Don’t let any Zora Captains flee.
  • Defeat the strong Wizzrobes.

Your only means of defeating enemies with ice attacks will be from two Ice Rods and Cryonis. In order to make Cryonis attacks count, you need to defeat monsters while fighting in the water. In the eastern part of the map, there’s a spot where you can move freely in shallow water. Lure enough Bokoblins into the water and attack using Cryonis. You can also find two Ice Wizzrobes on the battlefield and use the power of the ice rods on enemies. Utilize the power of one of the rods before getting the other, in case you’re running low on ice power. If you’re finding yourself lacking on ice rod power, return to defeating monsters with Cryonis in nearby water. Defeat up to 100 monsters with ice attacks to complete the memory quest.

Be sure to save the Zora Captains when they’re in need. Direct one of your allies to any Zora captains in danger or pursue them yourself. This should be your first priority before dealing with the other missions. This quest will be fulfilled by completing the level as long as all Zora Captains remain on the field.

There are Wizzrobes scattered all throughout the level. Nearly all of them will be hidden at the start. You can spot them when an elemental rod is marked on the map. Defeat all the Wizzrobes to complete the third memory quest.

EX Battle for Kakariko Village

Guard the two Kakariko Village entry points circled on this map to prevent monsters from entering.

Memory Quests

  • Don’t allow monsters to break into the Kakariko Village outposts.
  • Aid the overextended Hylian Captain.
  • Capture 4 Outposts using Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

All three of these quests will require focusing on monsters & taking them out as quickly as possible. It’s recommended to make a food recipe that boosts your attack and speed in case you find yourself in a pinch.

The first quest is the easiest to fail quickly, as monsters are constantly going to try and enter Kakariko Village. Leave one of your allies near the gate to the bottom left of the map. You will get notifications on monsters who appear near this gate, so switch to your appointed character when this happens. Monsters will also try to enter from the top of the village near the Great Fairy fountain. Your other playable fighter should be stationed here to take out any advancing monsters. The quest should be fulfilled once you complete the main mission.

Make sure the Hylian Captain is aided if he’s in a pinch, otherwise there’s not much else to this quest.

Monsters will appear near Daruk (at the top of the Divine Beast) to prevent him from using Vah Rudania. Switch to Daruk once these monsters show up, and a short cutscene will play. Do this three more times and the quest will be fulfilled.

EX Searching Hyrule Forest

The second Rito Captain will be blocked off until you locate and rescue Tulin. Hurry to the captain’s aide to complete the Memory Quest.

Memory Quests

  • Defeat 500 or more enemies.
  • Keep the health of the Rito Captain protecting Tulin above 50%.
  • Aid the isolated Rito Captain.

These missions are straightforward overall, so there’s not much to worry about aside from maintaining the Rito Captain’s health. Aid him with one of the playable characters so his health doesn’t drop.

While one of your warriors watches over the Rito Captain aiding Tulin, have your second playable character aid another Rito Captain. He will be enclosed in a small space for awhile until Tulin is found. Make sure to keep the second Rito Captain alive and well until the quest is complete.

EX Liberate the Ancient Lab

Memory Quests

  • Defeat 1,000 or more enemies.
  • Obtain 4 Wildberries.
  • Defeat Master Kohga with Riju.

These are also pretty straightforward quests. Be sure you defeat Master Kohga, while playing as Riju, once he shows up.

Just like with the Hydromelons, there are 4 Wildberries hidden away in crates scattered across the level. Refer to the map below to pinpoint their location.

EX The Princess and the King

The location of the secret cave-in where monsters are appearing from is circled on this map.

Memory Quests

  • Don’t let any Hylian Captains flee.
  • Defeat the strong Wizzrobes.
  • Block the monsters’ path.

These quests are also straightforward and easy to complete as long as you take out any opposing monsters. There are two separate parts to this mission, one with Link and Zelda and one with King Rhoam and his soldiers.

Defeat all Wizzrobes that appear. They can be located with the elemental rod icon on the map.

To complete the third quest of this level, there’s a cave-in where monsters will be lurking. On Link and Zelda’s side of the level, go all the way south on the map to find a narrow path that leads into a cave. Defeat all monsters in the secluded area to seal the cave. This should complete the quest as you continue forward.

EX The Yiga Clan’s Retreat

Memory Quests

  • Defeat every Blight Ganon.
  • Successfully use a Sheikah Rune counter against a Blight Ganon.
  • Don’t let any ally flee.

At the end of the level, all four Blight Ganons will appear. Defeat all of them in order to meet the requirement of the first quest.

Important: Do not defeat Fireblight Ganon and Waterblight Ganon first!

If you defeat Fireblight Ganon and Waterblight Ganon before defeating the other two, the level will end and you will have to start over and try again.

Once Master Kohga has the ability to use Runes, granted midway in the level, use any of the runes to counter against a Blight Ganon. Be sure to use the appropriate Rune when prompted.

Make sure no ally flees from battle. There’s a key moment in the mission where a Yiga Blademaster will lock the gate behind Kohga. Keep moving forward in the level until Hollows of Link appear. These Hollows will also spawn near the Yiga Blademaster who aided Kohga from before. Run back to where the gate was closed, and it will reopen shortly after some dialogue. Make sure to defeat all Hollows to progress all while keeping the Yiga Blademasters alive.

EX Guardian of Remembrance

The locations of all of traces left by Terrako are marked on this map with white stars. They will be automatically marked once the objective starts. A fifth, hidden trace can be found after the other four are collected. A Malice Lynel must also be defeated before obtaining the hidden trace.

Memory Quests

  • Keep the health of Purah above 50%.
  • Defeat Astor with Zelda.
  • Collect Terrako’s hidden trace.

After collecting 4 of Terrako’s traces (marked on the map during the objective), Purah will be working on activating a furnace north of the map. During this time, she is vulnerable to monster attacks. Keep one of your playable characters near her and fend off against any enemies. This quest’s conditions will be met once the furnace is activated and all other major objectives are complete and Purah’s health is above 50%.

Once Astor appears, make sure to defeat him while playing as Zelda. He will spawn near Purah, leaving her wide open to attacks and taking damage. He will retreat once defeated.

During the main mission, there are 4 traces left by Terrako for you to collect. Once they’re all collected, a hidden 5th trace will be accessible. Robbie will pursue it, so you will need to escort him to the trace’s location. However, once Robbie arrives to the located trace, a Malice Lynel will appear. It must be defeated before obtaining the hidden trace, thus completing the final memory quest.

Secret Ending

After completing all the Memory Quests, a final cut scene will play that includes with Zelda, Link and their allies. This marks the end of all major content for Wave 2 of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass!
