Map from the first Legend of Zelda fully rebuilt in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

NintenFan Migue, also known as LinkOscuro on Twitch, has taken full advantage of Animal Crossing’s new Dream Island feature. Rather than simply decorating their island here and there with the occasional Zelda-related item, they instead transformed it entirely into the world of the original Zelda game released in 1986 for the NES. All together, it took NintenFan 20 hours to create the world of Hyrule in New Horizons. In the island tour, side-by-side comparisons are shown so that people can see what’s different in the details compared to the original. Even with the limitations of Animal Crossing such as not being able to enter the famous cave where you first meet the old man and obtain the sword, NintenFan remedies the problem by using the wrap pipes from the Super Mario crossover inventory to make it possible.

Non-Zelda themed furniture is also utilized to bring the island to life. Although there isn’t any items to represent monsters, a squid bumper is used for Octorocks and Mom’s Plushie can act as a Lynel. The amazing thing is about how it blends nostalgia with creativity. It serves as a reminder of how both creativity and customization can be used to breath life into well-loved games decades later. Seeing the original map of Hyrule made using the tools available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons reminds me of how creative people can be when they let their imaginations run wild.
