Echo Isle is a Link’s Awakening-style indie adventure, demo available now

PC players can now enjoy a playable demo for a new retro-style Zelda-like, which may look familiar to fans of a particular Game Boy Color title.

Echo Isle, from Josh Koenig Games, is clearly inspired by the 1993 Game Boy game The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening — or, more specifically, the 1998 DX port which brought color to the classic adventure.

Players take on the role of Aster, a “star warrior” on a quest to collect the legendary Echo Stones and banish the darkness that threatens the island.

The Zelda influence isn’t just visual, as you can gain new powers to open up more of the island to explore, and the game also features four “unique ruins, each culminating in an epic guardian boss encounter.”

Echo Isle is described as a “mini-adventure” that can be completed in a single sitting. The solo developer also stated it runs seamlessly on a Steam Deck, for those who want a quick Zelda-like fix on the go.

The demo is available to download now on Steam, which is also where you can wishlist the game if it takes your fancy. There is not yet a release date for the full game.
